To be fair, cost of living is pretty fucking crazy there.

Yeah... I'm out. I feel rich for buying a 130K foreclosure, but that's ridiculous.

In any case, what you describe falls under "delivery time matters", doesn't it?

Not really. It's not urgent. Just that saving a few dollars isn't worth it to me to have to wait, potentially miss the delivery, make an extra trip to the post office, etc etc.

I don't go to stores like GameStop because I can get the same items for a lot cheaper online. I don't know why the stores have such high markups on things.

For me it's not that I can get it online cheaper that forces me online, it's that high-street retailers simply DON'T stock PC games any more. I have zero choice but to go online now.

Until about three years ago I resolutely refused to buy online unless I literally could not get it in a shop; I would even wait weeks to have things specially ordered by favourite game stores. Then the shops stopped selling PC software so I bought physical copies online apart from certain games that never had a physical release. Now most "physical releases" (and I do air-quote that) are simply codes-in-a-box which is the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. Heck most of the time even if you do get a disc with data on it it's less than 50% of the game and you wind up downloading the rest anyway.

I tried to help brick-and-mortar stores, I really did, but there are limits. Now I simply buy wherever is cheapest; GOG, Steam, GreenManGaming, Amazon, Origin, Uplay, HumbleBundle. I just don't care anymore.

As for other media though; music, films, TV series. There will always be a place for physical versions of these. I tried watching The Battle of Five Armies last night on Flixter and it was awful; choppy playback, out-of-sync subtitles, cutting between HD and SD. No thank-you. I like the reliability of a Blu-ray, and I know if it's on my shelf I will always be able to watch it, I'm not relying on a host to have it. As for music, well, I've yet to find a decent source with the quality of file I like with my eclectic taste that can stream to my car in the middle of nowhere. CD's are nowhere near dead.

I'm pretty sure the stuff you were biting was gaming related though, wasn't it. ;)

I knew it'd go this way for a while. There's simply more margin in goods like clothes, the game section gets smaller and smaller.

I love Amazon for their discount. I couldn't care less about extra skins or a weapon that will be obsolete 5 minutes into gameplay. Give me money in my pocket I can use for other things.

No, star wars rogue one related. Ever been to a hot topic? They have the anime section, pop culture (music, movie, etc.), and random hit shows (big bang theory, walking dead, etc.) and a bunch of non gaming stuff. The gamestops near me and like that now - but instead of the goth section they have a gaming section. If you haven't been to one, look at thinkgeeks website. The sell a lot of stuff from there and most of it is "geek culture" in general not just gaming.

Ebay, craigslist, kijiji, whatever.  Sell direct to others and get more $ for titles that are worth more than EB Games/Gamestop would have given.

Regardless I don't think that physical shops have a future any more... at best consoles will have those staying around since the storage solution on those is worse and having the entire game on a disc still helps.

But none of the game is on the disc anymore. You put the disk in and download the whole game. That's Xbox and PS4. The Nintendo Switch is the only console that has the game on the physical media.

I used to be quite active here.

With crappy internet connection still a thing. Retail stores won't go away entirely. Some still have crappy broadband and downloading a game will take days. By the time when the game has finish downloading, some do loose the interest to play it.

I still haven't finish GTA V due to the gigabytes of patch, which I don't have a chance to ever finish downloading, due to some people hogging all the bandwidth with a crappy internet.

And physical copies does have their place, especially when you get those special editions.

I actually like going to gamestop for console games.
I prefer physical media for everything but pc games.
I'd be really bummed if the one I go to closes down, I know the employees by name and they know me.
A lot of their stores can be kinda shitty, but the one I go to feels like they actually care and that really makes a difference to me.

Higher frame rate over higher resolution.
