not necessarily on higher res than 1080p

7700K all the way. Ryzen struggles with gaming, especially at 1080p!

did you even bother to read anything about Ryzen 7?, since thursday it's been the same thing, Ryzen for productivity, mixed with gaming on the cheap(compared to intel's HEDT CPUs) but for pure gaming the 7700k is still the best.

Intel i5-6600K@4.2GHz, 16GB Crucial DDR4-2133, Gigabyte Z170X-UD3, Be quiet shadow rock slim, Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ OC, Fractal design Integra M 550W, NZXT S340, Sandisk X110 128GB, WD black 750GB, Seagate momentus 160GB, HGST 160GB

If you want to overclock the results are still comming in, look for the ones that have turned some of the 8 cores off

High refresh rate monitor?  Why be so f'ng critical of him without even knowing the situation.

For gaming, 7700K all the way if you are trying to push as many pixels as possible.  The 1700 just can't keep up with the 7700Ks clock speed advantage, plus games are more optimized for HT right now than SMT.  It will take a while for games to have codes that take advantage of SMT..but even then the 1700 will lose out in games in both clock speed and IPC compared to the 7700K.

can you wait for AMD optimisations to filter down to published games or do you want the best you can get now? If I was just gaming id get last years intel line up and spend up on a good monitor
