Pretty much I just have to play any game for an hour or 2 with any overclock and instability starts to show. And I know that at least some GTX 980 G1 Gaming owners have the same problem as well (part of it is the abysmal ASIC quality-the cards can in some instances exceed the default power limit at stock due to requiring a higher voltage and therefore consuming more power than most GTX 970/980)

he linked a mobo from SuperMicro that has Performance Bias in the BIOS settings

 

the difference between these and the current issue is that those mobos do not list settings for select benchmarks

cache speed can also be increased... extra silicon units that aren't used by each workload could be disabled, thus allowing more stability for that particular one (like how AVX2 workloads are much harder to be stable than standard ones.)

Just like how disabling 7 "cores" of a 8350 lets you hit over 8GHz on LN2...

if you do this sort of trickery you can force IDLE sections of the CPU to increase performance of other sections while maintaining same TDP envelope - but this cannot be normally achieved

Not to mention that there is no particular reason AMD couldn't go a step farther and disable extraneous silicon for those programs, increasing stability in the process (like AVX support).

typical workloads don't use only AVX or only FP units - only benchmarks do that ;)

Actually a well designed game would make extensive (almost extreme) use of AVX code... But most of them are not well designed...

I would agree with this if it turns out to be a means of boosting benchmark scores.  AMD haters will say that it's complete bullshit.  AMD fans will say that if you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'.   :P

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.
