GTX 780Ti vs R9 290X - Which has aged the best?

Interested in getting either a R9 290X or a GTX 780Ti, both at similar prices, from a used retailer called CEX, who don't show if the Gpu sold is non reference or reference. Back when launched, the GTX 780Ti beat the R9 290X, but is that still the case with new driver updates and game optimisations? What is the better deal, disregarding price, now? Thanks all for your help,

Have great day.

My Build:

i5 4690k

Gigabyte Z97 D3

AMD R9 290

8gb ram

Sandisk SSD plus 120gb

EVGA G2 550W

Corsair Carbide 200R

pretty sure the GTX 780TI is the better card here, the 290X is worse then a GTX 970 and i think the 780TI is a bit better then a GTX 970

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

Not in many newer titles, it performs under a GTX 960 in Witcher 3 (Not 100% sure).

yah i took a look, seems that the cards are about equal now within a few FPS so whichever one is cheaper would be my pick probably

I'd get the 290x because it supports newer software and applications, has more VRAM and outperforms the 780Ti in a decent amount of titles now

Found this article which you can have a good read http://www.babeltechreviews.com/nvidia-forgotten-kepler-gtx-780-ti-vs-290x-revisited/

tl:dr from the article: " We have seen that the 290X is still being optimized by AMD as its architecture is unchanged with the current 390X. Partly by being 2-1/2 year old architecture, and partly by having more vRAM, the 290X has turned out to be generally more “future proof” for playing today’s latest modern PC games.  However, we can clearly see that the Kepler GTX 780 Ti still is in the same class as the 290X and it runs 2013 games just as fast or faster in 2016."

The 780 ti is officially junk now. On par with a 1050 ti on some modern titles. 290x is still as fast as a 390 though.

if it's not a garbage reference blower card then i would go with the AMD space heater.

Yeah, I don't agree with the wording but I agree on the performance. And I'll even post the proof. You and I, being friends.
