First, this is NOT about one being better than the other. It's about how we talk to each other.

I've been a gamer for 38 years, plus. I've seen it all. From trading games you coded on the Apple II Plus, to The Witcher 3. I've owned every console ever made other than the Wii U. And I'm sad.

We should be happy, for the first time in my memory you can build a gaming computer that pounds out any game you want in 1080p for just over a console's price. You can buy a card that kills it in 1440 for 400 bucks. 400 Bucks! Yet we fight. We attack each other and assume anyone that complements the other company is out to get us, rather than just enjoying THEIR purchase. Nvidia and Radeon don't care about us, and that's OK. They just want our money, and it's our responsibility to make them earn it. I see a lot of people who come here looking for advice as they're new to the hobby fall pray to bias support. Not bias because the company they supports deserves it, but because the people who push their biased viewpoint want to win.

Want to win, meet me online in a match. I suck, and use the same tag just about everywhere.

Want to help, give this guy 20 minutes.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Totally agree man. Not only can the Internet be a toxic place, since you're not face-to-face with the person you're talking to... Its even worse when anything competetive gets mixed up in there.

Go Ahead. be bias, but be nice about it! accept that some people don't agree with you. its okay. :) Just be nice and good things will happen.

Its what happens when you get teenage "fanboys" from both brands in the same place.

I'd recommend a 480 over a 1060 anyday (Yes i own a 480, but now they're coming up close to 1060's in dx11 with recent driver updates, and beating in dx12)
But i won't shove it down peoples throats, just tell them the actual information about the cards. But if they want to use a nvidia card or someone suggests a nvidia card, there's no reason to jump at their throats for it, everyone has preferences.

The best GPU for you is the one that will meet your goals at the lowest possible price. I mean, it's really that simple.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

At the end of the day it's just drama. And drama is just pointless noise. *shrug*

A society's accepted views of the world surrounding said society is both the making and undoing of society itself.

It would help if AMD's Architectures didn't have nasty scaling.....

In terms of clockspeed, TDP and SP count.

But there is always competition. It's not that simple. There is always a small difference in price between the 2

I've owned both AMD and NVIDIA cards in the past.

I'm currently on NVIDIA.

Why?

With my 290x, it was fantastic until I updated the drivers to a version that crippled me in games, artifacted everywhere, and crashed my system about 5 times a day, which wasn't great. I rolled back to the last version after a clean uninstall with DDU, and continued to have issues. When the card did work, it was amazing in most games, but in certain ones (just cause 3), I was getting stuttering everywhere, which disappeared the second I bought an NVIDIA card.

I sold the 290x and bought a 980ti. Never had any issues with it, and I also got shadowplay, which was amazing. The simple fact of the matter is NVIDIA can pay game devs more to make sure that they run better on their hardware.

In the end, it's all a dick measuring contest, when people bitch about one card or another. Competition is what a lot of people seek, and it's sad.

I own a 7850, and it lasted my brother about three years and it's been good for the approximately 7 months I've owned it. All I care about is if it can plow through Team Fortress 2.

Oh yeah? Well my 1070 plows through women.

Which is probably why I'm wearing an ankle bracelet.

And getting a divorce.

You know, next time I'll just buy a damn R7 240. That can't even plow through HD porn.

Let's see...

Nvidia: Geforce 6200, 9500 GT, 8400 GS, GTX 280, 580

AMD/ATi: 5450 ,5830, 7850, 270X, Fury, RX 470

I choose AMD/ATi as it was cheaper to buy, still delivered the performance that I'd expected. I'd never really took on Nvidia, the only reason i'd buy them if they brought back Voodoo or 3dfx.

Just buy whatever product that suits you with the performance you want at a acceptable price.

I'm not sure how people become bias I mean it's not like it's your local football team. I don't think people flame about which tv brand or av receiver is best, it seems to be something we see entirely based on the gaming environment which surprise surprise is pretty toxic

as others have said buy the best you can afford at the time

Not necessarily. There's only two competitors, and one has quite a bit of ground to make up. If anything, they'll price just slightly lower than Intel, and sit there. People will still choose Intel/Nvidia, just because of loyalty.

Yeah. I mean, it'd be great if they did match them in performance. But if they do, you can bet they'd slowly raise the price until almost parity. Similar to what OnePlus set out to do.

but maybe it would have somewhat different set of features, such as OC and not, or cheaper MOBOs or something. Things will never get to fully equal, but if they did, I would roll the dice.

There is no best, doesn't exist. There's what's best for the person. And even then that relies mostly on taste.

The issue is misinformation, and the spread of it. Because both companies make a great product, people lie. Nothing wrong with having a favorite brand, but when you lie to get someone else to buy it, or win a pointless argument. The hobby suffers.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
