What is normally open on Christmas Day in North America?

Jack the Stripper

Gas Stations

Convenience Stores

Fast Food Joints

I am thinking Movie Theater's are open and perhaps the YMCA pool/gym.

Almost nothing is open, the things that you listed are just about all that is open. The family owned/operated convince stores are normally closed though.

Its worse then a 'small town no town'

I wonder if Coffee Shops are open the big national brands probably would be, but not the independants.

Bars? Liquor Stores? Strip Clubs ;) ?

I will see whats happenin with meetup groups and the like. I know of one place that has a marathon "meetup" all day but its the same ole story all the time plus they are all about ego. They are egomaniacs with an inferiority comples, they fake it until they make it, 90 in 90, in which they themselves are damaged goods.

Safeway is open over here. Possible certain coffee chains, though I've no need of said coffee chain.

http://montreal.about.com/od/attractionsbyholiday/a/montreal_holidays_open_closed_christmas_new_years.htm

The 3 pages of that article resumes it quite well for what's open and what isn't, here in Montreal.

For some, it's really up to whoever owns the store if they are closed or not, so you're better off calling before leaving the house, to make sure they are open or not.

Quebec has some fucked up laws! The one below is one of countless fucked up laws.

Quote

Grocery stores/supermarkets larger than 375 square meters (4,037 feet) in size are legally obliged to close December 25 and January 1. However, smaller food markets can remain open at their discretion. But it doesn't mean they will.

Well its a fact really. Over my many many years on this earth, I have come across some really messed up and fucked up laws that Quebec has.

Even the tax law is that way. Give-Away prizes. But in other respects Quebec has good laws too, like fixed child care costs. Those are all that come to my mind right now. A quick search on google brings up general "Fucked up laws" not specific to Quebec.

I would think to realize this fact, you need look no further then the French Language Police.

I am sure its a wonderful province, lots of history for sure. I have heard stories that Quebecois out of the metropolitan areas can be snobbish if you do not speak their language. You need look no further then when they tried to seperate from Canada.

I do not see why they teach French in the Canaidan school system. Even Federal Government employee's dont need to speak it.

I do plan to visit one day.

Oh yes, I'm well aware that some(many) of our laws aren't great, but I was mostly wondering where that comment came from. Like was there something in the article that made you say that or did you just see "Montreal" and blew your top off? I mean, not judging at all, just wondering. ^_^

Yes I read your link and I quoted the bit that reminded me that Quebec has some messed up laws. They are not obscure laws either, they are main stream laws. I will quote the bit that reminded me, again.

I just wonder who is going to measure the store when a beat officer strolls up and notices a store open. Does that area include storage. Does the beat street cop have a measuring tape on him.

I have a keurig that I sometimes use.  It's nice.  And purple!  ?

What kind/model is your espresso machine?

I could show you the actual thing itself to get a better look if you'd care but I figured the box would be ok for now at least.

Those machines are horrendous on the enviroment. The little plastic thingys. They can not be recycled.

billion gallons of raw sewage and industrial effluent enter the river ...

Quote

Green Mountain only makes 5 percent of its current cups out of recyclable plastic. The rest of them are made up of a #7 composite plastic, which is nonrecyclable in most places. And for the small few that are recyclable, the aluminum lid must be separated from the cup, which also must be emptied of its wet grounds, for the materials to make it through the recycling process. Even then, chances are the pod won't be recycled because it's too small, says Darby Hoover, senior resource specialist at the Natural Resources Defense Council.

So thanks for saving our enviroment, congrats!

Carbon tax should be pointed towards these types of companies.

Not particularly, especially if comparing to a Keurig. I enjoy coffee enough for the work to be worth it, though most will find their machines go unused and their Starbucks bills go ever higher.

A pump espresso is the absolute minimum to make good espresso (the cheap $40 steam machines are no better than a $10 Moka Pot). There are machines that do more of the work for you, but costs increase drastically.

I mostly just get chai lattes from Starbucks with soy milk.  My friend says it tastes better than with regular milk.

I'll try to keep that in mind if I ever get an espresso machine.  A little work might not hurt for something better quality than a keurig.  Hopefully without the waste from the cup things.

All show and no play. Still wearing leather shoes, driving petrol vehicles, using plastics (which is based on oil). David Suzuki is like that too. He has mansions and flies around in airplanes, but he will show up to the event in an electric vehicle.

I did not look, I was too busy eating Turkey, Cranberry Sauce, Stuffing, and Gravy, then dessert was Pumpkin Pie and Whip Cream.

Laid down on the couch and couldnt move.

I just love white Christmases, its better when its snowing though. Large flake kind of snowing, with a wiff of a burning fire in the air. It makes me want to work that stripper pole even harder ;)
