Completely depends on what card.

There are 4 GTX 10 series cards: the 1080, 1070, 1060, and 1050/1050Ti. 1080 will be overkill for 1080 unless you have a high refresh rate monitor, same with 1070 in certain scenarios, even the 1060 might be overkill if you are trying to run on medium settings.

Well there is a big gap between a 1050 and a 1080 so...

well maybe you should've mentioned this.

GTX 1060 is the ideal choice.

GTX 1070 if you want to move to 1440p in the near future.

No, but I would recommend the RX 480 8GB instead because of freesync.

No.

And no overkill either. But I would get a RX480 4GB for 1080P. Better value, especially if you consider "future proofing" with the increasing adoption of DX12 and vulcan. AMD shows higher gains in there.

Oh yeah, totally forgot about that! Freesync is, like G-sync, a really cool technology, but a lot (!) cheaper than G-Sync.

Would it be better if we use amd gpus with amd processors rather than using it with intel's?

Intel's current CPUs beat AMD's current CPUs no matter what GPU is paired with them - for gaming.

What about Ryzen do you think it will perform?

Maybe. Then again even if it matches Intel, Intel could turn right around and release something better.

Whether a GPU is overkill or not depends on the games you want to play, and the settings you want to play them at. At least a GTX 1070 is required if you want to play modern Assassin's Creed games at 1080p and nearly max out all settings, and still get 60 FPS. But, if you only want to play e-sport games, then a GTX 1060 is fine.

Here's a master-list of games that a stock GTX 1070 doesn't get 60 FPS in, or doesn't get a constant 60 FPS in, at 1080p with settings maxed. So far mentioned are:

Witcher 3 Blood on Wine DLC

Black Desert Online

TERA

GTA IV

GTA V

Watch Dogs 2

Rise of the Tomb Raider

Crysis 3

Assassin's Creed Black Flag

Assassin's Creed Unity

Assassin's Creed Syndicate

Ark: Survival Evolved

Ashes of the Singularity

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Mafia 3

Dishonored 2

If you like playing new graphically-intensive games at high settings, then I don't think that the GTX 1060 is a good choice for 1080p gaming - especially if you want future-proofing.

I play CS: GO a lot but when i get derank do to my shitty skills I like to stay lonely with those single player games ???

So i guess gtx1060 wont work.

Using a 1080 is over kill unless its for VR but 1070 and 1060 would be fine.

Thats a very powerful machine. If you can afford it, go for it.

If you mostly play CS:GO, this machine will be overkill. A GTX 1060 or RX480 will be more than enough.

For 1080p I think a 1070 is overkill, in any game. If you play 1440P, then 1070 is worth it.

One thing to keep in mind is that GSYNC is a hardware solution while Freesync is a software solution, the reason for the discrepancy in price.

If you're sticking to 1080p because of price, ditch the i7. Unless you are using it as a workstation as well a i5 will be plenty.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

A GTX 1070 isn't enough to play some games at 1080p with max settings, and get 60 FPS.

For 1440p, a GTX 1070 is generally not powerful enough to max out graphically-intensive games and get a constant 60 FPS. A GTX 1080 is better-suited for that.

This is simply not true. Check out these benchmarks of the GTX 1070:

http://www.pcgamer.com/the-geforce-gtx-1070-review/

On an average of 15 current games, which they benchmark at max settings, the GTX 1070 gets average 111(!!) fps at 1080p.

On 1440p it averages 77.4 fps.

The video you posted shows this as well?

There may be SOME outlying cases where the GTX 1070 cant get 60 fps at 1440p ultra settings, but in MOST games, it will easily handle 60 fps.

GTX 1080 is VERY expensive anyway, not many people will be able to afford it. Unless you want to run 4K, the 1070 is plenty fast.
