Anyone making the switch to AMD?

Mostly a question for older CPU users.

I will do it to show my appreciation for AMD for trying so damned hard for us, they have my money.

Plus 5930K is lower than Ryzen.

If they offer better performance for a lower price, then why not?

Thats what i do all the time anyway

I might, once we get real benchmarks out.

I'm talking about Aida64, Cinebench and Fire Strike benchmarks with this CPU.

Was going to upgrade to i7 6800k and X99, but if I can get that new ZEN CPU for same price and it turns out to be better ... yeah I will concider buying it.

But nothing before real benchmarks comes out from Linus or any other good youtuber.

I will buy something because it's a good bang for my buck and performs well, not because it has a certain company's logo on it. AMD is another company simply trying to get your money and they will have it if they have a good product at a decent price.

Wait for benchmarks.

Better or equal performance for a reasonable price? Sure/maybe, but no one should be making a switch until benchmarks come out.

Nobody can actually comment on that yet.

If Ryzen is 1000$ then no. Of it's 500$ and performs like a 6900k for real, plus they offer nice itx/matx boards then most likely.

If it can't beat a 6850K for speed, cores, number of express lanes, and price I'm not interested.

I'd jump the gun and go with an AMD Ryzen chip, especially if it beats Intel in terms of its price to performance ratio.

Pretty sure it beat all of those except for price considering their demos had it on par with the 6900K or better.

I'm going to throw this out there. For software development fx have been brilliant and the gamer hate towards them has been even better because it makes them cheap.

From what I have seen which is nothing real is I think they will make 8 cores @ 4ghz the new min standard.

But we can all agree when zen comes out consoles will still suck!

Yes PCI lanes. Intel has increased their offerings. I wonder if amd has been paying attention or are they still trying to compete with broadwell

I need the cores (and RAM) for rendering in Premiere Pro and creating virtual environments in vSphere (studying for VMware certs). Also gaming of course, especially with newer games beginning to need more threads for optimal performance.

I'm doing a full new build next year regardless, and I want an 8 core. That part is non-negotiable.

I would prefer Ryzen, as it might save me a lot of money. Otherwise Skylake-E I go. Sure, that'd hit my wallet hard, but I'll make it happen one way or another.

Plus I think the implementations of actual machine learning (unless it's all marketing stuff) in Ryzen is incredible imo.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

Nah, I will wait for Zen.

Oh, wait, I will wait for Ryzen. The name is the only thing that really changed yesterday, we're still waiting.

Oh, wait, I'm already using AMD, I cannot switch to it. Can I wait for Ryzen and then switch to Intel? :P

It looks very promising and if there is a good enough value and the benchmarks they were running are not rigged I could see myself going up to a 8 core cpu for multitasking from my i7-4770k if they have the cpus at a good price.
