a new type of shilling - game developer locks content to specific Intel i7 CPUs [updated]

that's not how you do it

Yes it is, just like high vs. low settings, certain things are best done with proper hardware.

no it's not

  1. they locked access without telling customers
  2. they would've unlocked the modes to everyone anyways in 3 months
  3. the min sys req have an i5 4590 - 4th gen

this has nothing to do with "proper hardware"

Their very own apology letter disagrees with you.

then why didn't they updated the sys requirements? because their apology has absolutely nothing to with sys req

the game's STEAM store page hasn't changed in the slightest: http://store.steampowered.com/app/342180/

Because the minimum to play the vast majority of the game at the 90fps target is exactly what they said. For specific parts of it, more is needed. Now instead of maintaining quality they placate whiners like you.

then, they should state it very clearly on the store page so clients can make an informed purchase

Intel's guys who OKed this should've known better

I mean, it's VR. There's a chance that shit is even harder to run and while they're busy optimizing it they'll let people who won't complain about shit performance play the unoptimized version in the mean time\

You might be right, except the devs confessed to striking a deal with Intel.

Intel, I'll buy a Celeron build off you in a week, and after that never again (buying used doesn't count).

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

a reward for those of us who took your recommendation? "oh I gotta just swap out my 6600k cuz some game dev said so"... with that mentality there are going to be games that you can only play with an rx480 8gb with an amd cpu and no NVidia stickers on the case...

As an i7 owner, this is disgusting.

Just because you didn't buy an i7 (not even because of performace, just purely the money you put into your CPU) shouldn't mean you can't play part of a game.

This company is going on my scum list for greedy game devs.

Same here, considering my 4790K is only beaten by slightly lower clocked i7 5***C (can't remember the model, because Broadwell is pretty much irrelevant), i7 6700K and 7700K (and anything X99). And it would still have had the modes walled out:

Long story short, I was planning to go to VR in the next 6 months, and I was looking at getting Arizona Sunshine, and now it and Vertigo Games can fuck right off.

I don't have a problem with the idea of a timed exclusive mode if that is what Vertigo want/agreed to do. But, like many have said already, the mistake was not communicating this clearly in advance, and it blew up. I don't see any fault with Intel in this. Their involvement enabled the extra content, which was intended to be treated as a bonus. Instead, it is now misinterpreted by the many as limiting/removing a feature. There is a psychological cost even if the outcome is the same e.g. if I gave you $100 you'd be happy right? If I gave you $200 and then took back $100, you're not going to feel as good, even though it is the same outcome.

No, not when a better AIO means that I could run 4.8-4.9GHz at 1.35V (aka, safe).
