Any way to attatch two ends of a cable without a soldering iron?

One of the main cables of a laptop charger broke off, any way to repair it without using a soldering iron? I thought a while about tying simple steel wire between them, but maybe those don't conduct as well

I would recommend to change that charger especially if that is on the mains side since it's cracked, the only reliable connection would be to solder it.

In this case replacement is best for safety reasons.

f it were a non-safety joining of two cables, you could have looked at crimping, or at a push twisting the ends together and applying a ton of insulation tape.

Just don't use it unless you like exciting fires.

Thats a mains inlet though. Ship it to me and I'll replace the unit completely...

I think shipping back and fourth will cost more than replacing it

But thanks for the offer

You throw that away right now. Thats mains power and you don't do that. Also that charger looks cheap.

I mean it looks like they just soldered it together in the factory, but ok. Yeah, its kind of cheap, but it is the stock charger you get with the laptop

You could buy a mains plug and a meter or so of 2 or 3 x AWG18 or better cable, screw the cable into the mains plug and then you can connect your cable to those two cables in the laptop adapter by stripping a bit of insulation, then twisting the copper wires of your cable to the ones in the adapter and then insulating everything with some electrical tape.

You can easily buy mains plugs that have screws inside them, so you just remove a bit of insulation at the end of the cable, slide it inside a channel and then tighten screws to put pressure on the wire and keep it there inside the mains plug.

Alternatively, buy a basic power cable with mains plug at one end and C13 or C7 (mickey mouse) connector at the other end and cut the end connector and you can connect the two wires to your wires inside the laptop adapter. Same story, twist the copper wires together, use electrical tape to insulate.

When you find a soldering iron, you can just add a bit of solder at the junction points of those two wires and make the connection more permanent.

What's C13 and C7.. it's those connectors typically found in laptop adapters and computer power supplies : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60320#Appliance_couplers

Maybe i will just replace it, it will suck to not be able to use it for a few days though

I mean, if it's until you can get a replacement, it should be fine. But I certainly would not use it as a long time solution.

A bit too advanced for me since im not a electrician, but thanks for the effort
