Seems to me they didn't actually get it working, and just had someone behind the thing telling it when and where to shoot. Or if they wanted to be more sneaky about it, just have someone vnc into the computer controlling it. 

 

The idea was cool though. :)

 

"Clever" camera editing. 

 

Kind of a filler video for me. :( But hey, I watched it anyway, so they don't care. :)

It definitely worked. It didn't work extremely WELL, but it worked!
 

The main issue with getting it to shoot people is that it was loud as all hell, so as soon as it started to move people backed off and got out of the line of fire before it could start :( haha

We have some tentative plans to use it in a CSF video down the road, so you'll be able to see it blast more staff members in the future. As Nick said, it was a little too noisy for us to use it effectively as a stealth turret this time around.

You guys should have used a transistor for switching it on and off and stepper motors would have worked better instead of servos. Also you guys need to get more building material in the warehouse besides supper cheap scrap plywood if want to keep doing these project videos.

Steppers are a lot more expensive and use way more power, for these purpose servos are pretty okay IMO.

Steppers are a lot more expensive and use way more power, for these purpose servos are pretty okay IMO.   

 

 

You can find Chinese ones on eBay for about $8 which isn't that much more expensive. You are right that you'd need an extra power source and a motor driver board but I think the extra precision and robustness is a good enough trade off if you wanted this thing to work for more than a few hours.

Hmm, maybe. Especially considering the cost of their nerf gun, an extra ~$50 total for a nice stepper setup would probably be well worth it.
