i got the windows maze screensaver working on windows 7 and windows 8 i use that for the nistalgia

But no I don't use screensavers, would rather have my monitor off than displaying some pretty thing that I won't even see.

Screensaver is the little thing that appears when you're computer has been idling for a set amount of minutes, like some animations. Or if you run Folding@home, you can set the screensaver to that and watch proteins being simulated. Wallpaper is the background on your desktop.
