Any Downside To Upgrading To A GTX 1080?

iamdarkyoshi

My 390x is currently running three 1080P monitors at 144hz. As you can probably guess... not everything works very well xD

I've been with AMD for GPUs since forever, never bought a high end nvidia device.

Reasons for switching:

I have a full time job

My 390x draws a shitload of power

It can't quite throw out as high of a framerate as I would like (clustertruck struggles to reach 60fps)

AMD doesn't really have a competing card right now

Thoughts on switching? What would I miss out on?

the 390x is a great card and beats the nvidia equivalent (970) and it like a 980 if you oc,

really the 1070 is the next step up, at least the next step up thats worth it

Future Upgrades

VVVVVVVVVVVVV

1: SSD

2: Freesync monitor

3: AIO cooler

4: New HDD

5: RAM upgrade, i want 16gb of black ram

order 1-5 is what I want the most,

color is of importance (most to least)

You'd miss out on people saying that your purchase was sensible and that you're bottlenecking a very good card.

For triple monitor gaming, I recommend the X70 or X80 green cards depending on what settings you're going for.

The price is the only thing i can think off. The power usage and heat are all good acrossed the board. Performance as well. So the price is where its at.

Basically, there is no reason not to switch. At least no reason that you are looking for. Go for it.

It hurts your wallet, which clearly isn't a relevant downside here.  I guess if you pick the wrong card, a downside could be looks and sheer power of the cooler.

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

No downsides other than cost. It might be cheaper to get another 390x for crossfire and should be more performance than a single 1080 in games that support it. But there are more downsides to that than a single 1080. You'll lose support for freesync which is cheaper than gsync.

My room is 80 degrees right now, I have played one round of rocket league and my window is open with a fan blowing in. Its nighttime.

I know the pain. Both my cards are 60 degrees on water with hot ass air coming out of the case and 3 monitors producing heat too. But a 1080 gets hot too.

wot is that?

Some I've seen are screen display not rendering properly. Blur text and fugly colours.  Usually happens when you do a cold boot.

Pst, they don't stop optimising-they just launch graphics cards with drivers that deliver close to the maximum performance.
