R9 390x or RX 480 OC ? (or CF?)

Hello everyone,

 

I´m thinking about a little upgrade in my PC / Grafik setup and could use a little help from you :)

 

At the moment I´m using a single  MSI R9 390X Card with the default OC from MSI.

 

Anyone know how the Card compares against an MSI RX 480 with OC (with WC)?

 

I can´t find a good benchmark for both cards with decent OC settings... :(

Is a 2nd Card (either 390x or 480) in CF worth it?

A 390x beats a RX 480 by stock and OC and i would not call it a "upgrade'' but rather a ''downgrade''

RX 480 performs about the same as R9 390x .... depends on game. So it would be only sidegrade .. not worth it at all.

I was a bit confused because the pure specs (GHz) are much better with the 480 oc...

As a 390X owner, it's hard for it to get better for you. CF 390Xs pull a lot of power, and the only real single GPU upgrade is a GTX 1070 or higher.

It is a beast. For sure. If I had one I wouldn't really think about upgrading for the next couple years. (1080p mind you)

An RX 480 isn't really an upgrade from a 390X: they're about on par, it's more of a sidegrade.

 

If you really want to upgrade I'd sell your 390X and use the money from that and the money you were going to use to buy another 390X/480 and get a GTX 1070 or even a 1080.

I was afraid you would say that...

 

Personaly I do not like Nvidia Cards so I will propably consider a 2nd Card (CF) or just wait for VEGA...

(I don´t say they are bad - I just don´t like the Company...)

At the very least it will be better than a 390X xD

 

And consume a lot less power because HBM2 uses less power than GDDR5 (on top of efficiency gains and a node shrink).

The R9 390X is better in some regards, in others it is outright WAY worse.

I would get the 480. While it is a tid bit slower, it is more power efficient and has much much much better tesselation performance.

Not worth the side grade, wait for Vega or get a Fury if it's on promo there.
