UPDATED! 1060 6gb vs 480 8gb (in Eastern Europe)

Hey, I've got a 4790 non K and a H97 MB and got no gpu atm. now here is my story

 

The cheapest 1060 6gb costs roughly 320$ and the cheapest rx 480 8gb costs around 350$ for some reason , perhaps because of poor availability (some retail at 320$ but those will not be in stock any time soon)

 

All I want is the best fps/dollar ratio and this includes the future games and dx12.  

 

The second dilemma is that I would normally go just for the gtx 1060 cuz its cheaper and available and I'm on a tight budged,  but a 144hz freesync monitor goes by even 250$, while g-sync monitors with 144hz go for double or more (models  that I found), I do play csgo so I would need something like 144hz freesync or g-sync. ( Will be gaming at 1080p only)

 

Tell me, what would you do if you were on a tight budget and had to choose between those two, and what advantages I would get from each choice?

UPDATE: While the gtx1060 and rx480 go in E Europe for around 330-350$ , the R9 FURY goes for 380$,  Is it worth to just get the fury regardless of having just 4gb?

freesync or g-sync does not to much and I would just get a normal 144hz monitor. the 1060 6gb

get the 1060 unless you have a freesync monitor or plan on getting one soon.

i would get that and an AMD GPU honestly (coming from the forum number 1 nvidia fanboy BTW) freesync and gsync are fantastic you should not miss that oppotunity but i'm not sure i would get the RX 480 i would probably hunt down an R9 290/290X/390/390X or maybe even a Fury...check pricing.

1060 = In dx11 and Gameworks games play better (batmans, fallout, watch dogs)

 

480 = dx12/vulkan games play better (mankind divided, doom, battlefield 1)

 

And by better that's usually around some FPS. Really depends on the game but generally see it as 5-10 FPS difference. For $30 less the 1060 is the better deal for you. I like AMD and prefer the 480 but not for $30 more. :P

I've never seen a G-sync or Freesync monitor in action, so those type of monitors are worth it as far as you guys tell me, hmm

The human eye cannot see more than 24 fps :P

oh absolutely...you never realized how much screen tearing is cutting away form the experience and how smooth gaming can be until you've experienced a monitor like that...trust me, it's a game changer...my monitor break tomorow i'll be insanely sad and i'll order another gsync monitor right away cause now i couldn't imagine myself gaming on a normal monitor anymore...ever.

IF you are getting a Freesync monitor, RX 480 is the better choice.

 

Honestly, Freesync or GSync are gamechangers, and i'm saying that without ever trying it (sadly..).

Everyone swears to it.

 

And a "normalA 144 Hz monitor is a JOKE in comparison. This can ONLY be "smooth" if you set Medium settings in all games, and use VSync, to cap the fps at 144 fps.

As soon it goes BELOW that, you get bad Frametimes (because Frametimes and Refreshrate are NOT synchronized)

 

Freesync let's you have it smooth frametimes (no frame skipping, and no tearing) down to 40 fps. It won't matter if your fps vary between 50 and 80 fps. You will have smooth frametimes, without Tearing. Giving you an overall smoother, more consistent experience.

 

And of course, it won't take "many year s before you see benefit" lol. You see it from the first second.

Doubtful since G-sync adds about $100 to the price so Freesync monitors will always be cheaper.

Fury is around 10-15% faster than the 1060/480

If you're going to get a Freesync monitor you'll need an AMD card. An RX 480/R9 Fury + Freesync monitor may be a better experience than a GTX 1060 with a static refresh monitor. Even if average framerates are lower, smoother frame delivery can make it feel much better to play.

 

More than 4 GB can definitely be used at 1080p in some games for their highest settings. It's usually just a matter of being able to turn on max texture detail, or having to settle for mere "high" textures.

Thanks for the responses, however one more of my concerns was that cards such as the Fury, given its in HBM1, not sure if it will have priorities in getting proper driver updates in the future
