Sort of. Emoji's are a character encoding nightmare though, most modern emoji's are based off a random Japanese standard that wasn't intended for anything outside of Japan, most of which don't work with what the forum sets the character encoding to, being utf-8. But even if you only inserted utf-8 compliant emoji's, all of a sudden a specific browser on a specific phone doesn't include that character in France. Or worse the encoding for a japanese woman with her hands in the air gets translated to an eggplant or some such and you end up with a mess that could offend people. So, yes, they are client side, but relying on client side emojis especially on a international facing website like this is bad news

As a general response to wanting to add one:

 

I'm not sure how the emoji system here actually works.  For all I know all the ones it has are default to the forum software and weren't actually hand-picked to begin with.  Regardless, I don't recall the last time one was added (hasn't happened since I joined iirc) so... idk it just doesn't happen   -- if we start now, adding this, there's 100 more we should do and it would get out of control.

 

Now specifically about this:

 

Regardless, I'm not sure that's one we would want anyway.  We want to be a positive community and having an easy way to show you think someone's stupid isn't exactly conducive to that
