Well, Titan XP will be roughly 30% faster than the 1080 for a price increase of 70%. I consider this as bad :D

its about a 980 in preformance, and for $200, not a fail IMO

Most of the custom 970s cost less than reference RX 480s in Europe.

Intel started going Nvidia's way,i mean releasing a $1700 CPU with just 2 cores more and some features which many people are not even gonna use is just stupid

Evidently, it wasn't meant to compete with the 1060 either.

970* performance.

Yea after about 1 year of drivers, custom coolers it will be the 980 level or even better maybe even a 980 Ti if gaben helps us

yee they just dropped hard here in Sweden, like $60 or more on some cards

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

The point is that the RX 480 is a €300+ plus card with low stocks and low overclocking headroom.

Yes I understood don't worry ! Titan Z is a joke, but I wanted to emphasize the fact that the Titan XP is a scam anyway ;)

Gwarsh, i supose Maxwell was already "efficient" on its own. Its all about power savings today anyways and AMD as always tought making cards that wouldnt power an African Village for a month would be key. But hey, the 1080 is quite ahead of the 980 Ti and i think nowan will make the 1080 a 980 Ti for daily use...

Pascal is not Maxwell on steroids.

Pascal is a new architecture on 16NM.

If something performs similar, doesnt mean that its also the same architecture.

YouTube channel AdoredTV has conducted some tests about Pascal per-core performance, proving his former statement that consumer Pascal is basically Maxwell on steroids.

From this video we can see that the 980Ti has a slight advantage over the 1080 when running at the same clockspeed (due to the higher core count), while the two cards perform equally if their TFLOPS values are adjusted to the same level (achieved by severel downclocking the 1080 and slightly underclocking the 980Ti)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDaekpMBYUA

There are obviously some advantages on the software side for Pascal, but this tests were all about performance per core, which is practically the same across the two architectures. That's also why AMD could have easily reached NVIDIA performance and efficiency wise this time (but it sadly failed).

confirmed, eh .... what a load of shit

GTX 980Ti transistor count - 8B

GTX 1080 tranzistor count - 7.2B

just a node shrink right?

you have a new GPU with couple of million transistors less, even has less CUDA cores, texture units and ROPs and still manages to outperform the old architecture

The only reason why it's so expensive is because it is unbelievably fast at Double Precision. Single precision on the Titan Z kinda sucks but DP is awesome.

The main thing with Pascal is the significantly lower power consumption. Yeah they perform the same clock for clock, but when Pascal consumes a shitload less power for the same performance...I don't see why people have a problem.

Good thing it was targeted at prosumers (I.e. People who benefit from DP but also want to play games without needing a second card).

Exactly, The Titan Z was the last dual Titan card from  the kepler series if i´m correct.

These were the last Titan cards that had great Double Precision figures.

And therefor these cards were also realy good at certain productivity and professional workloads.

just like their Quadro´s or Tesla´s which are way more expensive.

Nvidia saw that manny professional users boaght those Titan´s instead.

And decided that with Maxwell they should gimp the Titan X on DP aswell.

Titan XP has no double precision. It's GP 102, not GP 100.

Whoops. And even so, the price of the Titan Z dropped to $1400 about a year ago.

Don't count me in. It was not meant to be a gpu war topic... that's just a confirmation of what actually Pascal is.
