Squeezed nearly every single dollar out of this build. Managed to get a 1440p monitor with 144hz refresh rate in there. If AMD had a better graphics card to take advantage of Freesync I would have chose that instead since the monitor has Freesync. (Possible team switch in the future for this lucky build owner )

 

For bonus points I stuck to a nearly all Black/White color theme including the Ram, GPU, Case, CPU Cooler, SSD, and even the Motherboard. For an Extra 50 bucks this system will look really awesome with an NZXT Hue +.

Guess i'll go ahead and take a crack at this.  I chose to go small form factor with a mini itx board sporting the i5 6600, a water cooled fury x, and a 240 gig ssd, all enclosed in the Enthoo Evolv.  This build also has a 2TB hard drive for media storage and 16GBs of 2400mhz ram.  To round out the build i added a 1440p 144hz free sync monitor, a (mostly) full sized mechanical keyboard and a corsair m65 mouse.  As of creation the price, without mail in rebates and without in store pick up, sits just under $1,690

The keyboard is only really there because it's necessary. I hope "all around good" doesn't include virtualization, Windows 10 pro wasn't worth the extra $$$. Good thing there are plenty of other options for remote desktop. You could think of this as a "semi-pro" editing station and gaming rig. Fractal design's website states that the Define Nano S comes with "an adapter included for motherboards with limited fan header" but wasn't very specific. They seem like a company that would include a splitter capable of running all the case fans off of one header. Worst case scenario is that this ends up being a few bucks over budget. The mouse includes macro buttons, because I personally need me some media keys. The fans, well, just think of them as a touch of social engineering  No window or LEDs because, hell no.

as an all round build, gaming wasn't the only thing on my mind. as such: compact case + silent enough cooler, and only a 1060 compared to 1070/80. I feel in an all round build not more else is needed graphics wise since the games will have a tough job catching up to the 1060, let alone 1070/80.

   plenty of power in the 6700k, 16gb of ram ensuring linus probably can't out-chrome this machine.

 

as for aesthetics, a dark toned black theme to match the all round rig meaning it'll look good in an office space, but you still have the option for chroma keyboard & g-card lights.

 

 keyboard choice was made to be great for gaming (in my experience) while not too loud (again, for the "all round part") and monitor's 144hz rate and great colour means it'll look great in an office environment or pulling off sick 360 noscopes.

 

g502 cuz g502. couldn't find the spectrum version, but that's what I'm hinting at.

 

3tbs should be fine for storage, or you should be networking (the great teachings of linus media group), while the samsung 850 evo brings launch down to under 15 seconds in my experience.

Explanation on my proposed "All-purpose PC Rig"

CPU: i5 6600K - I was at a dilemma of either picking the i7 6700 or the i5 6600K (note that both can be OC although different method), but after some consideration, I feel like it was a necessary sacrifice to fit in better parts (one of them being the monitor, but I'll explain later

CPU Cooler: 212 EVO - it's cheap, it does the work well so why not?

RAM: Kingston HyperX 16GB DDR4-2133 - I wasn't picky when it comes to RAM, so a black kit with a moderately well speed is enough

Motherboard: MSI Z170A SLI Plus - It's black, it has SLI, it has steel-armored PCI-E slot, it has Z170 chipset, it's considerably cheaper than most Z170 board while being aesthetically good

Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB + Seagate Barracuda 2TB - I'm using this combo for my rig (lower capacity), they work like a wonder

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Armor OC - Black and white goes super well with this build

Case: In-Win 503 Black - I'm using it currently, what can I say? A wonderful case at the $60 price point

Monitor: Dell UltraSharp U2515H - even among other IPS panel monitors I doubt there is one that can rival this baby at $350, it's basically a 1440p version of the U2414H I'm also using with great color accuracy due to factory calibrated, InfinityEdge design (near bezeless), shit tons of ports (2 HDMIs, 1 miniDP, 2 DPs, 5 USB 3.0 ports), 100mm x 100mm VESA mount compatible for tilt, pivot, swivel. The only downside is the 60Hz refresh rate but for me (who isn't into competitive gaming) it doesn't really matter too much since the color its literally soothing my eyes wheneven I watch a movie with it, also an i5 and a 1070 should be sufficient for 60FPS high-to-ultra setting in most game at 1440p

Keyboard and Mouse: CoolerMaster Storm QuickFire + Logitech G303 -  like RAM kit, I wasn't going to be picky about this so a Cherry MX mechanical keyboard and a (considerably) cheap mouse will do the job well

 

In short: This PC doesn't one-sidedly aim at competitive gamer or Video/Photo Editors, this is an All-Purposed PC, this means gamers and people who do creativity works can use this PC well with no problem

The Quiet Subtle Red Build

 

@Slick Personally I get so annoyed when I'm across the room and I can hear noisy fans whining while the machine is just sitting there at idle. For that reason, my build had to had to at least have the ability to be quiet. Quiet case with some form of sound dampening and components that, unless under serious load, be somewhat quiet. Myself being a long time supporter of 'the red team' as far as that war goes, I had to go with AMD graphics and thought it would be nice to carry the 'red' theme throughout the build. Put Corsairs Red AF140 series fans on the front of the case to get a red glow when it's dark and couple those fans with the H110i to get some nice CPU temps or OC possibilities. Here's my compilation:
