PSU Tier List [OLD]

Go to solution Solved by Spotty,

This is a legacy list. It is no longer being updated.

The new PSU Tier List can be found here:

The website's not letting me look at what's in stock, but since you wanna do Crossfire:

Seasonic: M12II EVO 750W is a great PSU and usually pretty cheap over there. Other Seasonic alternatives won't be as cheap, but they're all amazing.

Corsair: They're a tricky one. The CX750M (grey sticker) is likely to be fine, but only get it if it you can make sure it has a 5-year warranty. Otherwise you'd be looking at higher-end ones like the RMx.

FSP, CoolerMaster, Silverstone: They have some real bad ones, so without being able to look at what models they offer I would suggest staying away from them.

Edit: I downloaded their pricelist. The best deal imo is the Leadex Gold 750W for 550RM (it's a great ass PSU), and the cheapest that still will do you fine is the S12II-620 for 350RM (non modular, can only crossfire cards up to 200W power per card), or the M12II-750 EVO for 530RM (still a great PSU)

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Awesome stuff, thanks! The Seasonic units were the original go-to since it was the only brand my circle of friends had an opinion on; somehow along the way I went with a Super Flower, though in a way I guess I'm glad I did else I wouldn't have found out more about them.

Thanks for your recommendations, definitely useful advice especially with the holidays coming up. Would 750W be perfectly adequate, headroom and all? I do see a 850W for an extra RM70 in the same series, anything above that is already hitting Platinum.

If you don't mind dishing out 70 for the bigger one, go right ahead. But you don't need the 850W unless you're gonna OC the shit out of a couple 275W+ cards.

I'm curious what the OP would rank a Silverstone Strider 550w platinum unit.

Looks fine on ripple and a little loose on regulation. Capacitors are fine, so I would easily call it a Tier 3. It would have earned T2 if it regulation on the minor rails was better.

That sounds good, won't know if I'll ever go that route but would be nice to know I can. Cheers for the advice! Now if only they had ultimate threads for other components too, eh.

Thermaltake just refreshed most of their PSUs. They are really stepping up their game. Their PSUs offerings are now overall better than evgas (their new n1 series is pure aids), with none of the "new" ones made by HEC. Kinda sad when you think about it, really.

Source?

I'll make my verdict when I look at reviews, but it's nice to see Thermaltake finally getting tired of hearing shit about their crappy low-end lines.

Go to their website. The newer ones are the ones with the "better looking" fan mesh. They are just refreshes so they perform most likely the same as their old ones. They basically put all their not-so-crappy PSUs in a new housing.

Isn't it weird that the G1 is Tier 4 but it still has a 10-year warranty. Isn't that weird? Like EVGA is asking to get a bunch of them RMA'd and will have to replace them with upgrades? I dunno.

The 5V rail goes out of spec on crossload 1 and the 12V threatens to do so as well on crossload 2. Mesa no like.

I don't either but the PSU itself is made well, it just performs eh. It's more likely to break other components than itself.

Agreed. That really makes me want to not recommend it even for cheap. It's gonna be triggering UVP on components left and right.

Which makes me wonder, what kind of damage exactly can under-voltage do?

I think that's enough evidence a G3 does exist...maybe it would have the quality and ripple, suppression, crossload performance ect. of a T2 (or the 'worse' P2) but with the efficiency of a G2? :P

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...
