I finally got my i7 5960X and managed to do some minor overclocking. It looks like I got a very decent sample - 4.4GHz at 1.24V.

I am more into the GPU overclocking, but heck I run a nice daily OC on my CPU to which seems to be enough to earn a spot at number 11 of the 1155 sockets :) I prob could go higher now I have a custom loop, but I need to do research on that as all I did was change the turbo multiplier to 45 and left everything else on auto :)

Is that going to be a pentium?

Phenom II X2 B55.

The record for one is 4.799Ghz on phase change. And in R15 with 2 cores active at 4.650Ghz 232.

I want to get familiar with DICE on a cheap board and CPU before I throw more expensive parts at it. The mobo is out of warranty and has issues and I have another dual core laying around should this one fry.

GL, I'll stay with air a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time :(

I have a 212 laying around but I also had 3 AIOs laying around and ended up giving one away. So now I'm down to two. 1 for the server and one for a spare.

I'm waiting for G. Skill to send my new ram before I touch any of the FXs.

I spent a long time trying to find DICE where I live now. I called the same place twice and got two different answers.

Moral of the story. Always call during the day and never relay on an answer from a guy that pauses when he tries to remember where he works.

EDIT: Im up to 500 likes now which makes me almost 1 third as popular as @Jumper118.

Very tough to get any more mutlithread points out of this little bastard of a chip. Still in awe the 4790k scored 210 single thread. Waiting for 4690k to drop in price like 20-30 then i will try my luck at one of those chips....again... just realized this 4790k was made in Vietnam...wierd. are all DC made in Vietnam? thought intel just had fab faculties in Malaysia and Costa Rica.

you need a gpuz screenshot to get the open gl test on the spreadsheet please.

Ok I am weak I had to give this a more serious bash :) Got her at 5.0, but with 96C I don't want to push it any more than this, has to put in 1.52V to get it to run, to think a sole 45mm thick 360 rad is cooling the CPU darn that is a lot of heat for a 77W TDP unit :)

UzvD2GA.png

I knew I had a solid chip, but didn't believe she would hit 5.0Ghz, guess my luck with CPUs is better than GPUs :)

yours in better than mine in terms of clock speed then. it is a bit toasty though.

96C is fine. I do 100C on Intel Burn Test.

If it's hot but not throttling = totally fine.

i don't think a delid would hurt it if its running over 90c.

Over 90C benching though.

Don't have a vice or razor blades. I could try getting it against a stone with another stone. Like cracking a nut.

I will pass on that front for now, I might when I build a new rig, just to see how far I can push it, nice winter night, open windows no heating and let her rip :P

For now I am pleased with 5.0Ghz on a bench and even more happy with my 4.5 Lazy and stable OC which she has been running for most of her life span. Even when my H100 was running on fumes (well nearly empty, glad I figured that out before it was fully empty)

At least I also know that the money I spend on my MB was worth it (z77 sabertooth).

it is a good frequency, but it wasn't the most efficient run. what ram do you have? i think you could get 900cb@5GHzWatermelons

Ok I had to copy paste this from when I brought my components (June 2012):

G.Skill ARES - Geheugen - 16 GB : 2 x 8 GB - DIMM 240-pins - DDR3 - 1866 MHz / PC3-14900 - CL10 - 1.5 V

you should be able to get at least much nearer to 900cb then. if you only have cinebench open during the run and open cpz and gpuz at the end, and close all other background programs that will increase you score. you might be able to overclock your ram or tighten the timings as well. if you look at my score, i was down 75mhz, but i scored 22cb more, i do have 2400mhz cl10 ram so that will help me, but your higher clock speed should easily make up for that.

Will give that a shot later believe I have had the ram higher, but I know ever less about OCign ram than I do about CPUs, I just followed a bunch of pictures for the CPU and toyed with the voltage.

the cpu is ok tbh. its just keeping cpu usage in the os to a minimum and tweaking the ram.

I am pretty happy with my score. 320 @4.4Ghz on my G3258 :D

Later i will try opening the case and OCing a little farther, but i'm on the stock cooler, so i don't want to push too hard. ;)
