How does it compare to the mpower? I think you had a mpower anyway...

Ok I am weak I had to give this a more serious bash :) Got her at 5.0, but with 96C I don't want to push it any more than this, has to put in 1.52V to get it to run, to think a sole 45mm thick 360 rad is cooling the CPU darn that is a lot of heat for a 77W TDP unit :)

...

I knew I had a solid chip, but didn't believe she would hit 5.0Ghz, guess my luck with CPUs is better than GPUs :)

Was that 1.5V on load? If so you've got some balls I'll give you that, most would be worried about killing their CPU.

Lower than 900 might be due to throttling, thermal or power. 880 is a great score for that CPU.

meh I tried 1.55V, but than it gave me an over volt warning on start up :P so I dropped it to 1.52V and honesty was not worried about killing it Intel says it can handle it and for a brief sprint I am fine with that :) I also did not notice any throttling during the run, but might have been a spike who knows.

Anyhow still have to give it an other bash with ram, might try it today depends on how busy I am :)

With a bit more tinkering in the BIOS I got to 4.5GHz on 1.285V and pushed the Uncore to 3.6GHz.

i don't think something is right there. the score seems very low for that clock speed

Close it all.

Also in the specification box on CPU-Z after the processor name and clock speed (ES) is there. Is that an Engineering Staple?

God damn this thing just does not want to give up at all, each new PSU it's been paired with so far has given a better overclock.

Thats a really low score for 4.7. I am getting better scores at 4.4. Try retesting with EVERYTHING else closed. I even closed windows explorer and that gave me an extra 2 points.;)

Hahaha I have never ran a Cinebench test before.

if you havent touched your cache ratio that is why your score a bit low.

set cache voltage for 1.45V

start with cache ratio at 47x

if you not stable start dropping the cache multiplier till you get a stable run

if you havent touched cache ,it is at 32x

Right scores with everything closed...

attachicon.gifUntitled.png

that is much better.  :)  when running any benchmark have as many things closed as possible. i can make a big difference.

Is 1.45v safe for cache? Because I haven't touched my cache at all...

yes it is

up to 1.45V is fine for 24\7 usage

I go as high as 1.78V on the cache for short bursts while benchimarking

I think am going to need some more fans haha, I am only running ine fan on my cooler at the minute so looks like that will have to wait till tomorrow.

I didn't know you could overclock the cache on a chip.

its not L2 or L3 cache you are overclocking

it is the "uncore" typically referred to as cpu cache

only lga 1366 1150 and 2011-3 have "uncore"

And uncore is basically anything on the CPU that isn't part of a CPU itself, so built in northbridge etc
