losing cuda cores 980ti>1080

So I've been wondering since the 1070 and 1080 are faster than the 980ti while gaming. I am wondering are there any disadvantages from going to 2,800 cuda cores to 2,500 or 1,920 cuda cores?

If they run at the same frequency yes but they dont also a bit worse for many workloads at once

No disadvantages as each core is faster. There will be a 1080ti will more cores just like how the 980ti was faster than a 980.

I think that since Maxwell and now Pascal, AMD makes more sense for compute if you can get your apps to play nice with AMD. Usually AMD just throws raw horse power at problems vs Nvidia banking more on optimization and such to perform competitively.

well he asked about 1080 vs 980ti, not 1080ti vs 980ti

and yeah the disadvantage is that there are less cores

and some stuff like computation benefits of more cores than faster cores

but that isnt the kind of stuff that benefits games

It won't be faster in some compute applications, it has less faster cores.

I actually don't think the cores are necessarily faster its just more that they run at an absurd frequency.
