AMD Announces Rx 470 and Rx 460 GPUs; Mentions Zen

shipping until the end of this month, the RX 470 and RX 460 are even more brief teases, essentially amounting to AMD confirming that they will exist.

As you can assume from the numbers, the RX 470 and RX 460 will slot in below the $199 RX 480. AMD’s press release specifically notes that the RX 470 is a “refined, power-efficient HD gaming” card. Whereas the RX 460 is a “a cool and efficient solution for the ultimate e-sports gaming experience.” These are no further details such as performance, specifications, or pricing, so this is a true teaser in every sense of the word.

At E3, AMD has announced the rx 470 and 460. Unfortunately, no details were provided except that the 460 was below 75 watts (I don't remember for sure but I think they said below 75 watts, Lisa might have said 75 watts). The 470 seems to be a mainstream gaming card while the 460 will be targeted at esports. My guess is the 470 will offer around 380x performance while the 460 will be somewhere around the r7 370 and GTX 950. My guess is that the card that AMD showed off at CES was the 460. Nothing else about Polaris was mentioned; we weren't given any benchmarks, though it is possible we could see some by the end of e3.

I currently cant can't find any article that reported on this, but AMD also mentioned Zen. We didn't get any benchmarks for Zen, either, though it was said that Zen is currently capable of running DOOM.

Well that's all for now folks! Hopefully we'll be seeing some more stuff before the end of e3 as this really isn't that much info!

EDIT:

Didnt see this, but found this on Anandtech's article:

This seems to be saying that AMD may make a press release soon with more info on Polaris..... Interesting.....

Nah, 470 will be R9 290 non-X stock. 460 will be between 380 and 380X.

Really? Do you know this for certain, or are you just speculating?

Of course, that is plausible. I wouldn't be surprised if it's true.

If you know this for certain, do you have any idea as to if the 470 is based on Polaris 10 or 11? That might help better gauge the 480's performance.

So if i understood it correctly those 3 cards are the complete polaris line-up.

Which is tbh a good thing, AMD's current line-up is good, but there are too many models so it's nice to see that they are planning to release fewer models.

I'm going with the 470 being the lowest-end Polaris 10 chip, with the 460 being the highest-end Polaris 11 chip.

I hope not. Hopefully the 470 is P11, as then the gap between the 470 and 480 would be a lot larger and the 480 might actually have 390x-980 performance. I hope so.

The 4GB RX 480 and the 8GB variant had a 300 points score difference in Firestrike ultra. I dont know that the extra ram alone is enough to justify that

Yea i keep up with the polaris stuff but i think there is more to these numbers than just VRAM, i think at least the driver versions are different and maybe the clock speeds, can't remember for sure but i am quite sure both cards didn't run in the exact same scenario.

Personally I'm just going to start calling the 4gb variant R 480 and the 8 gb the RX 480. :P

I think there's a 490 coming and the 470 and 460 are Polaris 11. If there is a 490, I'm getting that instead.

Yeah true but the rx doesn't really fit in that list either tbh.

There isn't a link between rx and r with a number.

Maybe rx 484 and rx 488 than? I don't know... Makes sense tho, only a small number difference and there is actually only a small difference.

Well, what we do know is that RX is the new naming scheme on desktop. The R9 and R7 and X suffix is no more.

Wonder when we'll hear about mobile GPUs and if they'll be called RM or something like that.

Would be cool to see some design wins on that front. Maybe a deal with Apple?

Pretty disappointing event nevertheless. Too little info. I'm glad I didn't watch it personally.

You "called" there not being a 490(x). Not there not being a Polaris 490. There is definitely going to be a 490.

I may be wrong, but the Fury was very successful -at least in sales- right?  I think that we are getting a 490 soon and Vega will probably be the new fury cards.

Thing is, AMD has continually mentioned Polaris is up to 300 dollars. The 8 gb 480 is 220 dollars, which leaves a pretty large gap, which also makes me believe there may be a 480. Also, 2304 SPs is a pretty weird number...

Of course, I could be wrong, and AMD might just mean that the super premium 480s will cap out at around 480, but I do have a feeling there will be a Polaris 490 (it just doesn't make sense for a generation to cap out at an x80 and not an x90).
