Does Your Machine Make Sense?

Dash Lambda

Mine makes some sense:

I have an mATX motherboard in an ATX case (which will eventually change when I get the air 240)

I have 4x4gb instead of 2x8

I have an i3 and a 380x (soon to be a 480)

I have my GPU fans set up so they are always on because I'm paranoid.

I use a PS2 keyboard because im too lazy to power on my system using its power button

Got a 980ti and a bunch of 1440p monitors, but still play games at 1080p

Got 32gb of ram but realistically use closer to 20 (not often either)

Have a z77 system and have yet to overclock anything on it

I wish my 3770k had vt-d... And my 600gb Velociraptor is due to die any day now... (I've been saying this for 4 years now... I've had it for 8) but other than that, my rig makes a lot of sense. I got the 730 SSD with the intention of grabbing another for RAID 0, but never did it. Still a solid SSD, but there were better choices at the time for single SSD's, even if it is a reliability beast.

No vt-d is a killer for me too. I wonder why the 3770 had it but not the K

They were trying to have advantages for both since it was only a $10 price difference, as opposed to the K being the purely better in every way version. At the time of my purchase, I didn't know what vt-d was, and wanted to OC. Ah well :(

I was on the same boat. Disappointing to say the least. At least I know a lot more now than I did then and will be doing a ton of research on a rig should this one ever die.

My PC makes sense(to me anyway) as far as I can tell.

Unless you consider the fact that I have a craptastic 19" TV 1600x900 as a secondary monitor.. to my 25.5" 1920x1200 main monitor.

Or that I have a dedicated PCI Ethernet card... and $200 sound card with $50 headphones.

Also a 850W PSU for a system that consume at most 350~400W on MAX load(never happen unless I run benchmarks). But less than 100W on idle/web browsing (which is 90% of the time)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200
MOBO: MSI B450m Gaming Plus / NVME: Corsair MP510 240GB / Case: TT Core v21 / PSU: Seasonic 750W / OS: Win 10 Pro

I have two parts, the first is I have a 4690K on a Z97 that I can't overclock in the summer because my room doesn't have AC and I use fans to cycle air through my room, and the Second is that I am using a Titan Black (got it used for 400 bucks) that is used with 2 1440 X 900 monitors and here is the worst part of this my third monitor only uses VGA so I have a dvi-a to vga adapter to use the third monitor

It is backed up.

Basically, I had one 2TB drive. Filled it, then got another 2TB drive and put them in RAID 0 to get 4TB. (after moving data around different external drives.) I wanted to have them external so I could get my build how I wanted it, and the enclosure I have doesn't allow for the drives to be separate. I could have had them in a JBOD, but I decided to go for the increased speed of RAID 0.

I'm almost full on the 4TB and plan on completely redoing my storage setup when I have the money (pretty much everything on a 10+TB NAS and important stuff backed up to multiple locations.)

I have a 4770k that's not really overclocked at all, a GTX 660 and 32 GB of RAM :D

If I saw someone about to buy that I'd slap them (in my mind of course) :P

But it actually works for me.  I always tell people that my build is very precisely tailored to me exact needs and probably appears very unbalanced to anyone else xD

They say it has a "full-size keyboard..."

Yeah, sure, so does this:

And it probably has more ports too.

Isn't that the beauty of PC building though?

(I know I'm the one to talk when I haven't built a PC myself. But at least I realize the potential they offer and the benefits of building a PC are. So I guess that gives me some sort of validity?)

For most people an i3 6100 and R9 380X (or possibly RX 480) is plenty. Though I mean there might be certain reasons to jump up to an i5 or i7 and/or an R9 390/390X or GTX 970/980 (or GTX 1070/GTX 1080)

For me I think the largest reason I want to go with an i5 6600K and GTX 1070 now rather than something like an R9 390X is because I've had a lot of things from AMD in the past 7 years since I got my first laptop when I was like 9. I guess my Mid 2010 13" MacBook Pro (my second laptop, I got in like late 2010 or early 2011) has an Nvidia GPU in it because I guess Intel c2d didn't have iGPUs, and then in 2012 I got a 32GB Nexus 7 (Wifi) which was powered by an Nvidia Tegra 3. But I think that was it for stuff I've owned that has had something from Nvidia in it.

So I kinda feel like maybe I shouldn't ignore Nvidia any longer, and they seem to have a good product that seems like it'll be at a reasonable price. I had originally been hyped for AMD to bring something that could hold up against whatever Nvidia had to offer. I thinking I might've been wrong. Which is fine. Right now when I can afford to build my PC is very much up in the air. Though I'm guessing it might be late September or Early/Mid October at this point since I haven't been able to get a job yet.
