Does Your Machine Make Sense?

... I'd comment on the fact that it's a Mac Pro, and the fact that it's nearly the highest configuration, and the fact that you only referred to the GPUs by their RAM (which is about as useful as saying you have a 32GB computer), but...

Your RAM is listed as DDR4. Why is that?

My bad sorry it's DDR3. And yeah its the highest configuration and the most powerful machine you can get for music production. When I bought it I configured it with both D700s and in hindsight I could probably get by with the D500s. However with Metal integrating with core audio drivers the GPUs do help when I tax the CPUs. However 6gb workstation cards aren't really needed for music production. However UE4 likes them.

  • 2 weeks later...

Not a serious build but all I had to hand to try something out this evening and this was what I cobbled together...

i3-4150T with Scythe Kozuti low profile cooler

MSI H81M-P33 micro-ATX mobo

2x4GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 1866 at 1600 as that's all the mobo supports.Corsair TX 750W PSU

AvP something crappy micro-ATX tower with side panel off as there isn't enough space to put all the PSU calbes inside (their cube case is much nicer)

XFX R9 280X which barely fits inside the case

Sandisk Plus 480GB SSD

Balanced? No!

Actually, there is no reason I could run this as a dedicated cruncher... although the low profile CPU cooler was bought for a modding project I've yet to start.

Gaming system: R7 7800X3D, Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming Wifi, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB, Corsair Vengeance 2x 32GB 6000C30, RTX 4070, MSI MPG A850G, Fractal Design North, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut

Looks pretty balanced imo.

I have an HP prebuilt that was running a core2duo and 2gb of ddr2(as you could have guessed) ram

I have since added 6gb (I added 2 more at a point then 4 more at a another)

My friend also  gave me his gtx 660 and then I've only recently nodded it for a 771 xeon. The E5440 quad core @ 2.83 GHz. Now I have probably spent a total of around $150 on this system as a hole. The Xeon was from a server I took apart in electronics, the ram was like $30, the mod stick was like a couple of dollars and the PSU was around 40 or 50. Then while buying a computer that I wanted to flip a guy threw in some old gaming style case and I threw the parts on there. Everytime I do something with it I tell myself not to because I should invest in more, and do it anyway
