Cool Ways to Start a Computer

labrockstar

Hello everyone! I have been wondering about a new way to start a computer (the key switch and button got boring). I am looking for things creative and something that isn't impossible to create.

Cheers!

Wake on Lan.

As soon as I clock in at work the server sends a WOL message to my pc so when I get to my desk its already booted up :)

You can also use this to start your pc by sending a Email or SMS.

A stupidly complex rube goldberg machine. But it has to reset itself so you don't have to set it up again every time..

Just wired up a work mates comp to a remote (used a 12v alarm module) has trigger events for when he opens his computer room door the pc turns on powers up one of his external hds (backup) when opens filing cabnet pretty cool, maybe could do something like this or a bit simpler Like just a 3 button remote start reset and backup.

Use one of these crappy clap on/ clap off devices and screw the mechanism to your PC. Imagine how frustrating it would be if you're in the middle of a battle and someone claps his hands. xD

who cares...

Lawn mower pull cord!

Ok, I would say the fighter switch, but you don't like that.  How about you find a sensor, like off of a automatic stink, and set something up that you can turn it on by passing your hands/fingers over the sensor. . . . instant no touch computer start.  Seems this type of sensor (really it only needs the capability to detect and send power on detection) would not be impossible to find on its own or steal from another product.  You could have a hollow 5.25 bay you stick you hand it and it then turns on and starts to glow, could be a  fun effect.

Stick a NFC Tag somewhere near to your Computer. With Apps like NFC Launcher and Tasker you could then do a simple wake on lan start up @looney or something similar. So whenever you want to turn on your PC, it works when you touch the NFC Tag with your phone only.

who cares...
