Posted May 17, 2016 Ok, so here is my story. A few years ago, I was taking apart an old dell desktop. I removed the CPU, which was a pentium e2200 (info on ARK) and proceeded to clean it and stuff it in my pocket absentmindedly. A few days later I heard some very loud clanking in the washing machine. I later found that I had left the CPU in my pocket and then run it in the wash. I know, I know, you should never handle the CPU like that, the static could have killed it, its my fault I screwed it up. I was just getting into computer hardware then. It has been in my desk drawer since. I was browsing YouTube last night and a youtuber called Tech Yes City! did a video about the durability of CPU's and GPU's. I now plan on testing the old and rather clean CPU, but I figured I would do a poll here first. I will test it tonight and post the results both here and maybe as a new thread. Posted May 17, 2016 I think it will. They are pretty tough little devices and unless there is electrical current running through it (And some static would be fine), water damage wouldnt affect it because they are almost air tight He who asks is stupid for 5 minutes. Posted May 17, 2016 There's no particular reason why it shouldn't still work. The chip itself is not fragile, so unless some pins are damaged, it should be mechanically sound. There's not much static involved in the wash cycle - the dryer yes, but the washer, not so much. In any case, there shouldn't be any problem testing it, provided you use a good power supply. Even if the chip is a dead short, the PSU should detect the overcurrent and shut down. On the other hand, why bother. You'll probably never use it anyway. Posted May 18, 2016 Author Yesterday I posted about my old Pentium CPU that went through the wash. I tested it last night, and the CPU itself works, however the onboard graphics are screwed. Posted May 18, 2016 Why would you put a Pentium CPU through a washing machine? That's eh that's a very odd thing to do and I'm amazed how the PC even booted properly

Posted May 18, 2016 I don't see why it would be damaged. The IC is sealed off. So long as you dry it off completely when you use it again.
