Hi there,

I haven't found any thread where members could give their job information. For instance, that could be really useful for companies to be contacted for serious matters, and for us to pitch them good ideas. Has it ever came up to make such a thread? If so, was it left aside because of the maintenance issue side of the thread?

So you are saying you want a thread (or sub forum) where people can offer their job services?

Eh, sounds okay.. but I dunno. No one would ever hire me from here in that case, since I am such a shitposter here :P

I'm not posting any identifiable job info, and there's no reason I'd need to talk to any of you.

You are wrong. Investigation of a perspective employee's social media presence is widely conducted these days. It's a great reference for someone's character. You may argue about trying to keep things separated, however that's a difficult thing to achieve in reality. Does one have something to hide?

Sensible transparency is the best policy in my opinion.

First of all, it isn't so much about getting a job, I will get one when i'll graduate. It's more to know who works where (at least who want to say he works somewhere) or a thread for people who would share their LinkedIn profile, because well ... its better not to come out of the blue like that on LinkedIn, especially since it isn't designed for people to get in touch with people they don't know. A job thread can let you know who's where, that way you can know the person a little bit before asking that person on LinkedIn. I've seen similar threads on other forums, for people to be asked a bunch of questions about their job or their company (and sometimes to brag when it's someone who made Alien Isolation).

The idea was for people of the forum to go to them, not for them to go to me.

Besides there are business affiliate statuses, but you can't see them all easily, and so on.

I haven't seen a LinkedIn thread, have I missed that?

To corroborate the post from @Nuluvius, over at the mapcore forum, there is a guy from Valve looking at what's being said, and that input sometimes help them implementing or balancing things in CS GO. I don't see why Amd couldn't be around here to listen to potential ideas pc enthusiasts have?

they search social media after you apply to make sure youre not some crappy drunk person

they do not search social media for people to contact about a job

companies get hundreds of applications for a position, they have no need to scavenge for people, and if they do they use professional job sites or tools like linkedin

not some random public forum filled with teenagers

They can have employees on forums because they want to be there, and they could be open to discuss about non top secret things.

Personnally, I'd so want to know someone in some companies, so that I can contact them to do a project with them and my school which would benefit both.

having employees on a forum for discussion is not what im talking about

im talking about an HR manager going to a public forum looking for people to hire

that does not happen

Agreed. That'd be a terrible idea and that HR manager will get fired within 24 hours. If the company doesn't go bankrupt first.

If you want a web presence to use as a portfolio, why not making a website? That's what many freelancers do and it works great for them.

@Enderman @Lehti

Guys I'm not looking for a job!

I never talked about getting one with that either.

And having discussions with employees about company specific stuffs is what I made this thread for.

I know no one is getting hired from a forum. I know what I'll have to do to get a job as well.

Purpose of that would be to discuss about a job/company to know if it's where you'd want to go, or if it's the jib you think it is. It could be to suggest directly to engineers from there something which could help them etc. Many things but getting a job.

Searches are conducted both before and after the process.

Sorry but where did I suggest that this occurs?

Again you are in part wrong. It is quite common to be contacted by head hunters once one has reached a certain point in their career. Though as you say, this is usually done through sites such as LinkedIn.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.

All I see is the word 'census' and immediately think of this census taker I had for dinner once....had his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

I think there are 'What's your job/occupation?' threads where people talk about what they do, but I don't really see LTT as a resource for companies looking for employees. Though it can be cool to find people on the forums who work in similar/same fields, not everyone is comfortable, or able, to disclose their occupation. If you want to be noticed by companies, go to them, don't wait for them to come to you.

Going to them if it's not for a job is really hard, there literally no one to talk to for an academic project for instance.

But thanks, I'll search with new keywords to find it then :)

What is your academic project? I'm 99.9% sure there is a forum somewhere that will cover the topic you're trying to research. LTT, while full of useful help, advice, tips and tricks, may not be the best source for academia.

I have two I could do.  The first one would be about machine learning usage to enhance AI gameplay un online multi-player games. Not too much for here.

Second one is about a new way of cooling things. Well it has been done to some extent but not for mainstream usage, where I'd try to implement it
