There is no mention of premium in the preorder page. A separate article from polygon quotes 64 player maps, the last 2 DICE Ames didn't have any network issues or super buggy. Battlefront for all its flaws was super optimized and amazing looking on PC. Dice has been developing on PC first for awhile. As far as consol ports hardline and BF were fine weren't they?

you know, Word War 1 wasn't just the trench war between germany and the anglo-french forces with the culminating point at Verdun. And from the trailer seems like it won't even be the focus of this game

Steps to make a gud game.

1. Must be fun

2. Must work

3. Decent story (nothing ground breaking but decent and not slapped on)

4. Decent muiltiplayer (same as story )

5. Have good game mechanics ( no more can't move around while prone even though you have room to crawl around)

6. Good servers that are ready for a major influx of players ( BF3 AM LOOKING AT YOU)

7. Good music

8. maybe a co-op missions or story for dicking around with friends

9. challenging but fun

10. lastly no bullshit DRM.

My guess is on the alternate universe, since it seems like they are also counting in this order: 3 -> 4 -> 1

It doesn't even make sense if you assume it is a remake of the first Battlefield game, because that took place in WW2.

WW1 != WW2

My research indicates they lost quite a few men in WWI... In WWII they were organized differently and never saw combat...

 

 

 

EDIT: In WWI the Germans did have African troops, I can find no info on whether or not any served in combat in europe, but until Nazism took over, while they were never really accepted as equals (miscegenation was severely frowned upon in Colonial German) they were easily found in Germany attending school or working.

They weren't fighting in Europe, but they were fighting IN the colonies, where many battles DID take place, just like WWII, but I cannot as yet find any information either confirming or denying the existence of "AfroDeutsche" soldiers in Europe.

It's pretty hard to find any facts about it at all. The facts that I have found is that when Hitler got into power, there were slightly above 20,000 black people living in Germany. Let's assume that the 20K number was either the same or higher than it was during WW1.

In 1917 there were about 62 million people living in Germany. That means that black people made up 0.03% of the population.

 

It's pretty safe to say that there were next to no black soldiers fighting for Germany during WW1.

I can almost guarantee that pre-Hitler levels were higher as the Weimar defaulted on payments to the veterans and such from Africa, I would assume a pretty big emigration after that and leading up to the Nazi takeover.

 

Official numbers will be hard to find as mixed race children and the parents of them often had their citizenship revoked, and those that were there under the auspices of work or training likely wouldn't have been included in any census. They would have still counted as colonial citizens. 

 

Hmm. apparently there are pictures of black german troops in uniforms of the German Reich with unit designations. I do not know german, and I could not say if that was specifically WWI or not, but at the very least there is evidence some served in the regular German Army around the era. Who knows under what circumstance or with what responsibilities.

Love the concept, it's far better than COD IW's shit futuristic Mass Effect, Halo ripoff.

A few points I would like to make as someone from outside of the US/UK:

  • WWI was much more than just trench warfare, there were many theaters and they were extremely varied. There was plenty of all out open warfare, and a lot of it was insanely creative.
  • As far as the name goes, yes BF 1 may not be the best but there is at least a bit of meaning behind it. WW1 truly was the first major "battlefield", it was so vastly bigger than any war prior, and it utterly revolutionized warfare as we know it, so I can see how it sort of fits. I would still prefer something along the lines of Battlefield 1914 though.
  • As a Kiwi I would love to see Gallipoli as a part of the game (although it's unlikely) as it's a battle that we base a lot of our cultural identity around.

Anyway, all aboard the hype train. Choo Choo.

I'm super happy that Dice has decided to go in a different direction to COD.

I was kind of hoping for a WWII setting but I figure one bonus to this game is that while it looks incredible with this version of the Frostbite engine, the next installation which will probably be WWII will look even better and will truly do the era justice.

The countdown to October is on :D

This makes me incredibly sad. As someone that plays bf4 for money (and used to play bf3 for money) I sincerely hope the community skips over this as they did hardline.
