Does anyone else dislike the new Scrapyard Wars format?

I love Scrapyard Wars in general but i hate reality TV and they all seem to be shot in the same format these days where they have the little mini interviews periodically between the raw footage. Maybe im way off base here but i personally liked it a lot more when it seemed raw and less scripted, do any of you guys and girls feel similarly? Or am i letting my hatred for reality TV creep in

It's still not scripted in the slightest. Ultimately it's just an opinion but I really like it so far. The main change I like though is the longer episodes.

No. They said the interviews were not scripted on twitter, and I don't see a reason for them to lie.

It's been edited to fit a storyboard that ed made but all the footage is unscripted.

I work in the film and television industry and this kind of stuff really isn't scripted.  Scrapyard Wars is in the category of a 'Documentary Reality Show', the subjects do their thing, and the cameras follow them around, at the end of the day they sit down and ask questions in an interview to add more content since after the dust has settled they can give more insight as to what was going on that may not have come to mind at the end.

 

I mean really, they gave two teams a budget, a deadline, a theme, and pit them against each other.  It doesn't need to be scripted because it's going to be interesting on it's own.

You forgot the most important thing, without those mini interviews we would not have seen Bob's reaction to Linus idea for a theme:

I like the longer episodes and the cuts make it feel more like a tv show, but it still is enjoyable so I can't complain. I'm pretty indifferent on the mini interviews, I think they're unnessacary but it definantly doesn't ruin the show or make it seem worse in anyway.

That is interesting isn't it... even when they're trying to be as cheap as possible, they'd still rather go with a 2600k or a Q6600 than anything from AMD

I don't think it's scripted. The most would be during the confessions, maybe they get an extra take or two to phrase themselves better but I don't think any of it is actually scripted. Also they purposely edited it in a way to look campy sometimes and end with a cliffhanger each episode.

 

I skipped the Austin Evan's one after ep1 - not a fan - but saw the other seasons; this one is favorite so far. They need guest hosts/challengers to make this interesting.

I hate how part 2 ended. And this scrapyard wars isn't as interesting as previous ones. At least not to me personally.

I feel that interviews make me feel more immersed into the show. Without the interviews, there's basically just a lot of action and it feels overwhelming. The interviews break up the action and provide more dialogue so you understand what's going on and the thought process behind it, it also gives the people more character and makes them seem more human and real. When giving my feedback to Ed on episode 3, I commented that the lack of interviews made it feel different and not as good as the first two because of the lack of dialogue and I felt like I was just a spectator watching people do things instead of feeling like I was part of it. Even if there's a lot of talking in the episode, I think the stationary camera is what calms things down and brings the story together because it helps keep the pacing and doesn't overwhelm you with non-stop action where at the end you're wondering if you missed something. In a ~30 minute episode I'd like to think I'm able to keep track of everything happening and remembering what I saw minutes after watching it, but when talking to Ed about episode 3 (literally a few minutes after I finished watching it) I had to re-watch it a second time because I did in fact miss some things which goes to show you that the lack of interviews do have an impact.

 

I likened the show to Epic Meal Empire in a previous review which is the reality TV show of Epic Meal Time which had a much larger budget and production staff but episode 1 and 2 of SYW is just as good in terms of production quality and content. It's one of the only Reality TV shows I like because it just feels good watching it. It's an environment I wouldn't mind being a part of and it just feels natural. Sure, the people involved play it up for the camera but it's not so over the top that it feels scripted or unrealistic.
