  • New browser from the co-founder of Mozilla gets serious about replacing the web’s worst ads

  • Entitled Brave

    • First announced in January

    • Has ad blocking built in

  • Instead of eliminating ads entirely, Brave wants to replace them with speedier, non-intrusive ads from its own network

  • Users who agree to see these ads will be paid in Bitcoin

  • Under this plan, advertisers pay for a certain number of impressions

    • Brave aggregates those payments into one sum

    • Websites that participate get 55 percent of the money

    • Then divvies up the remaining bitcoin between itself, its ad-matching partner, and the users, each getting a 15 percent share

  • For both users and publishers, Brave deposits money into individual bitcoin wallets

    • Both parties must verify their identity to claim the sum

  • Brave will map users browsing histories, but vows not to track users through unique or persistent identifiers

  • Alternatively, users will have an option to block all ads and pay websites directly through Brave

  • Seeking feedback from developers

    • Brave hoping to have system up for 1.0 Development Release next month

Tracer Victory Pose to be Removed from Overwatch

Picture of Pose

  • Blizzard announced to have Tracer’s victory pose changed after complaints on Battle.net forums of the pose “turning the character into another female sex symbol”

Original Complaint on Battle.net

“We aren't looking at a Widowmaker pose here, this isn't a character who is in part defined by flaunting her sexuality. This pose says to the player base, oh we've got all these cool diverse characters, but at any moment we are willing to reduce them to sex symbols to help boost our investment game,” the user, Fipps, wrote in a lengthy post.

“I have a young daughter that everyday when I wake up wants to watch the Recall trailer again. She knows who Tracer is, and as she grows up, she can grow up alongside these characters. What I'm asking is that as you continue to add to the Overwatch cast and investment elements, you double down on your commitment to create strong female characters. You've been doing a good job so far, but shipping with a tracer pose like this undermines so much of the good you've already done.”

  • Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan responded in the thread “We’ll replace the pose. We want *everyone* to feel strong and heroic in our community. The last thing we want to do is make someone feel uncomfortable, under-appreciated or misrepresented”

Pascal GP100 :

Quote

Packs 150 billion transistors into a 16nm finFET trip

Die is roughly the same size, at 600mm squared

I think the 150 billion figure includes the 4 stacks of HBM2 memory chips, the gpu chip itself is probably at around 12-20 billion transistors.

The die at 600mm is huge, there's concerns about the yield (how many dies are actually coming out from a wafer fully functional), there's lots of rumors saying nVidia will actually revise the chip specifications between now and actual release next year, releasing a version with several "modules" disabled initially and hoarding the fully functional dies for a more expensive model.

The interposer (the silicon chip used to which the gpu chip and the hbm2 dies is glued to and which has the traces between the memory and the gpu) is quite large at 1000 square mm , it's more expensive than the AMD interposer and harder to manufacture (according to industry rumors). nVidia also uses TSMC for the interposer who also makes the gpu and who will also make the whole package, unlike AMD which manufacturers it somewhere else and then sends the gpu and interposer and memory chips to yet another company (Amkor) to make the package.

BTW Nice to see Zen coming!

Zen will probably show up in late November, December, hopefully.  AM4 boards should show up next month or in June, but the chips available will be still 28nm chips based on the current processors.

The S936 is supposed to have a pretty mediocre build quality and keyboard. While I don't doubt that it will reach 20 hours with the extended battery, Linus did mention that such a machine would probably have some drawbacks or not much else to offer apart from battery life.

That's why I'd rather go for the ThinkPad X260 with the extended 6c battery. It has an excellent build quality and keyboard and seems like a much better package than the Fujitsu.

I was really surprised by the reaction to the "Mark 1" robot. I understand it's odd for him to want to build it, and I don't think any sane investor would try to sell them looking like Scarlett Johnson, Who it looks like is really unimportant as opposed tot the fact that people are able to build life sized, life like (looking) robots.

Also $1500 is way too much for a consumer CPU, that's just cray cray.

Just watched the Wan on You Tube and Linus mentioned about painting graphics cards and infilling the logo with another colour...in his case nail polish which as he discovered does not work.....so here are some tips on how to do it.

First of all I suspect Linus used Auto paint which is usually acrylic lacquer which is different from acrylic water based paint....do not use water based coatings, now the solvents used in auto paint are similar to nail polish and each will be aggressive with each other and dissolve or damage the coating .... this is important if you are infilling....you need a coating with which solvents won't react with the base coating in this case orange auto acrylic lacquer so to infill the logo it is best to use ordinary turpentine based enamel or auto grade enamel paint....in this case black enamel.

Now I watched Linus video when he attempted to infill and he was on the right track but some errors were made apart from the wrong product to infill with, the syringe and needle are fine but the viscosity was too thick....this needs thinning quite a bit.... a good rule of thumb is a mix of enamel paint mixed with turps into the syringe with a needle then gently squeezed until the thinned paint flows freely out of the needle without much pressure on the plunger.

Now this will seem too thin but it will flow smoothly into the logo and fill the bottom of the letter recess first until it climbs the walls of the letters....this step can be done in stages until you get the hang of it and can actually infill in one pass.

Now if the enamel mix flows a bit over the edge don't panic and try to wipe it away as all you will do is smudge everything and even if you do it's not a disaster.

What you have to do is let the enamel dry a bit....not fully dry ....just enough so that turps starts to dissolve it slowly when wiped with a turps rag....now a good idea is to get the left over in the syringe and squirt it onto to a waste bit of material so you can poke it with your finger or wipe it to gauge it's drying time. if there are any bubbles in your infill you can prick these with your needle but if it is mixed right you should have no worries.

now when the infill mix climbs the walls of your lettering or logo... some may spill slightly over the edge and with practice you will know when to stop but sometimes through capillary action you will get some infill paint making a spill over on the edge....the best way to get a nice clean edge is to get some cotton undies or such type cloth...cut into squares and tightly wrap around a small block of timber eg, ;..50 mm x 50 mm by 12mm or whatever...not to big...can use Aluminium( alyouminium) or plastic whatever you can find....now with the cloth wrapped tight around the face and with no loose pockets on the sides put a small amount of turps on the face of your rag block...not too wet but no dry spots either...just slippery....now gently wipe across the face of your sample and you will remove the excess black infill and this will leave the the orange background undamaged....you will see this coming off bit by bit...let the turps do the work don't put any grunt into this step.
Remember "you can paint Enamel over Acrylic..." "but not Acrylic over Enamel"....after completely dry you could wipe any smudges of with plastic polish or a light none gritty cleaner.

Good luck...be good to see some other effects like a deep gloss finish or Chameleon paint, glitter or metallic acrylics...cheers and best of luck.

Mike.

For a live chat impacting user viewership, a good example is when Chris Pirillo had a live stream that ran almost all day, most days of the week.

Since there was a heavy tech focus, and he did tech help also.

It did not really have trolling issues since it was very niche, but had a strong following, where many people would help each other with basic tech issues. Things started to go down hill fast when he moved to a constant live feed of the chat as part of the stream, and since he essentially ran it as a DVR, when ever there was content that he felt would make a good separate video, or felt that the might want to create a separate recording, he would put the chat into a "voice" mode where only a small set of trusted user could continue to use the chat.

The mods were extremely slow to trust, and and the chat would frequently end up in voice mode throughput the day. This change in the way the chat worked, drove away almost everyone who viewed the stream for the community interaction, and the occasional chiming in by Chris on some of the topics being discussed. It failed because people got tired of being in the middle of a constructive group discussion, only to be silenced without warning.

Basically, it all comes down to if the content has a very heavy community interaction aspect.

in the section where Zen was discussed; Linus and Luke made it sound like AMD is currently not performance competitive in both CPUs and GPUs. Whereas the reality is that while AMD is absolutely failing in CPU performance vs Intel, the GPU performance competition vs NVIDIA is a totally different story. But the way that segment was delivered made it sound like NVIDIA's GPU performance was as dominant as Intel CPUs.

AMD has actually been gaining GPU market share since Q3 2015. And they have the performance lead in most price segments; which they absolutely need because the 'geforce' brand name carries more weight to the average consumer.

For the autonomous car racing. I would be invested if it was the story about how the teams develop their systems. Don't care about the cars racing but everything leading up to it. I would imagine each team for each car would get to develop their systems as they see fit and train the cars as they see fit. So maybe one team might want to do some sneaky moves and make it learn how to swerve away from contact while another might be inclined to just see how accurate they can make the cars at top speed and how the car can handle speeding up and braking. The science but not the race except for the winner.

Everybody knows babies are just little poopy, drooly miracles, man.  Procreation?  Biology?  Ha!  That's what the NWO wants you to think!  Stop drinking the blueberry Kool-Aid!  Fluoride in the water!  Chemtrails!  Open your eyes, bro!

My PC specifications are in my profile.
