What's the one component in your PC that you haven't used/pushed to its full potential?

My CPU and mobo. I made the mistake of getting an expensive motherboard meant for overclocking, but I haven't overclocked yet. I don't have water cooling, but I've got a really beefy air cooler on it.

My mobo for not using an unlocked cpu or it's m.2 slot.

My "meh" psu isn't even getting warm ahen pushing my i5 and OCd 960.

Everything else in my build I regularly peg out.

My GTX 980Ti Classified.

I have not increased the voltage, and am using the stock cooler.

All the componants in my laptop are running stock frequencies however they are undervolted to the limits of their stability (turns out I have a really well binned i7 5700hq I can undervolt by close to 76mV and reduce its peak temp by about 10 degrees completely preventing throttling).

Its not like I was going to get much overclocking overhead out of a thin gaming laptop anyway CPU thermals where already in the 90s, GPU touching the 80s.

My SSDs. I have repeatedly bought ever larger SSDs and while I use the space on the drives I never even get close to taking them to the end of their life before they are obsolete. I haven't managed to get a single drive below 95% of its lifetime (as in 5% used!) yet.

i watercooled my 290x... and i run it at stock speeds.

really should consider overclocking it soon :P

I watercooled my 290 and even though I have very modest overclock on it... I think not having a vacuum cleaner in your case was totally worth it alone.

Probably my x79 motherboard. My Xeon doesn't overclock beyond a few MHz on the BCLK, and I don't have a whole lot hooked up to a premium board.

For my desktop, it would be my RAM and SSD. I have 32gb and I have never use more than 10gb on a regular basis. I also have a SATA III SSD but my motherboard is only SATA II.

For my laptop it's the SSD, same as my desktop, only runs at SATA II speeds... Oh well, it's faster than a hard drive at ~280 MB/s.

I haven't even used 8 of my 16gb of ram yet. I also have not used 100% of my 6700HQ.

Clearly my processor, honestly I don't use such computing-requiring programs to use the full performance of my Intel Core-i7 4750HQ.

I don't usually go through 25% usage (of the main core, the others remain even less utilized).

My evga z97 classified mobo, only reason I got it is I basically paid 80$ for it brand new after I sold the i5 it was bundled with. I don't think I've even made it break a sweat.

5 gpu's? I wish, try 2.  8 phase power delivery? Try 150w max

I'm coming closer and closer to pushing my 750w PSU though, pulling about 700w max from the wall so still well within its limits

I guess I don't really utilize the 3000rpm vardars either but they regularly see 2300rpm

Definitely the PSU and RAM. From memory the PSU is a 1200W Silverstone that is probably the only piece of hardware that hasn't changed in the build and the RAM is sitting at 32GB since I tend enjoy doing stuff that is a bit overkill.

  • 3 weeks later...

The CPU, because try to fully load a 4.5 GHz 12 thread processor while gaming.

My ram, because 32 GB is a lot.

I think the bluray burner is probably the winner though. I have watched a single bluray on it and never written a bluray disc.

My CPU fan.  My old PWM CPU fan failed a while back so I got a new fancy high speed  fan off of Amazon.  It goes over 7000 rpm, but it never really goes above 2500 because even if I'm encoding video, my CPU never gets that hot.  I've got a 4690K CPU so I can overclock it, but I only have it at 4.4 Ghz because my motherboard isn't great for overclocking. I can force the fan up over 7000 RPM with the utility SpeedFan, but when I do, it sounds like a freaking jet engine, so maybe it's a good thing.

Definitely my corsair HX750 PSU, which I thought would be just good enough for my 3570k and 650 ti boost xD

I'm actually super glad that's the one component I overdid it on, because now I can just move it to my new rig and save a decent chunk of money! Just wish me from 3 years ago had gotten a fully modular PSU instead of a semi..

SSD. I bought a 250GB because I was concerned about space with a 120GB model and here I am now with 199GB free... *sigh*

Oh, and PSU. Hooray for a 760W 80+ Platinum unit for an i5 and single 390!
