IIRC, the next step from engineering sample. What makes me worry, is the chip is from week 14, which is just two weeks ago, they might have trouble getting enough volume for a hardlaunch.

It's sort of like a code name for a whole new set of Lego that's coming out soon, that's going to be the next generation of Lego that stacks even better than the previous versions of Lego. Lego comes out all the time, so these Lego makers (Nvidia, AMD) have to give names to the generations for marketing and differentiation purposes. Nvidia, the Green Lego Maker, is calling their latest Lego design "Pascal." The current design is called "Maxwell" and the previous design was called "Kepler." Nvidia seems to like famous scientist code names.

 

AMD, the Red Lego Maker, has its own code names for their own Legos, lately after islands for whatever reason. Names like "Hawaii," "Fiji," and their upcoming "Polaris."
