Does Anyone Else Screw Around In the Apple Store?

Alright, I may be young but someone else has got to have done this before. I find a row of iMacs or macbooks and open textedit on all of them and write something stupid.

With the (very low) amount of free time I have at my disposal, I will not spend it in an Apple store.

Here's what you can do if you visit next time.

open up terminal and then enter the below given command in terminal.  

 

defaults write com.apple.dock tilesize -int 1

 

then press ⌘ ⌥ D to hide the dock.

Can't say I've ever done that at an Apple store. If I go to an Apple store, it's usually because I'm buying something, not to be an immature idiot.

But hey, Apple stores weren't around when I was a kid, so who knows what would've happened back then?

Nope, never done that. But sometimes I go to the "gaming"  pre-built section and go to downloadmoreram.com and full screen it.

I've been inside one of those Apple store only once, and it was due to my brother. He'd wanted to buy a screen protector for his 6S, while he was having the screen protector mounted on his phone, I just fidgeted and wanted to be out asap, didn't wanna soil my hands touching anything Apple related (felt so dirty, needed to take a long hot shower after that). I did order an iPhone 6S the Apple store, but that was a gift to a friend). A few weeks later, my brother told me the screen had cracked and the crack was slowing getting worse. I told him I'd had no experience with screen protectors cracking on my Samsung S3, S4, Note 3, LG G Pro 2 and my present Sony Xperia Z5 Premium.

 

We both have the habit of putting our phones in our back pockets, seems to me the 6s flexes a little causing the screen to crack.....and this screen protector was from an Apple (or Apple partnered) store. He'd since changed the screen protector with some generic ones that can be bought anywhere......guess what? He'd not mentioned it cracking since then.....and this generic screen protector was from one of those neighborhood phone shops that can be found almost anywhere in my country.

 

I'd read about a very distasteful and shady practice done by an Apple partnered store here in my neck of the woods. Apparently, this fella went to such a store to have his phone repaired (6 or 6S I think). He was told that he'd have to wait a few days for the repair, the store offered to lend him a 16GB iPhone 5 or 6 (kinda fuzzy), but he had to sign some forms which stated that he must not make any physical change and whatnot on the phone. He'd not read it thoroughly but since he'd wanted to simply use the phone while his was being repaired, he'd signed it. When he went to collect his phone, he was hit with a bit of a shocker. He returned the loaner and it was checked, he was shortly informed that the loaner had been modified and that he had to pay for that phone. He'd stated that he did not change anything as it was a loaner and he had no reason to change anything, he could not get back his phone because he'd refused to pay for the loaner phone. His phone is being held as ransom since he'd refused to pay for the loaner. That's one of the shadiest practice I've seen any distributor/partner do and totally sullies the brand name.

 

Yeah, I know, we've only heard one side of the story, but it makes sense that the guy had not modified the loaner, why would he make changes to the phone? Making changes cost money, and he was certainly aware the phone wasn't his.....yeah, I know. When it comes to Apple, I certainly do have a lot to talk about.

This entire story sounds false.

To begin, you're comparing an Apple store to a business that is licensed to sell Apple products. You can't really do that. If I buy a phone from a store that's licensed, and that phone wound up being stolen, that's not the fault of Apple; they didn't sell me the stolen phone, and they likely didn't know a partner was.

 

Secondly, this whole "make changes" clause for a loaner. What "physical change" would someone make to a phone? I doubt a store would get ticked off over someone adding a screen protector, if there wasn't one already on it. And upon this guy returning the phone, it was checked and deemed that it was modified? Again, I'd like to know how this phone was physically modified. Sounds false? Awesome, I thought I was one to make snap judgments. It was an Apple partner store, and such practices are NOT beyond them. Apparently, she (thought it was a guy till I saw the FB page) was accused of changing the LCD screen. BTW, in the comments, someone mentioned Jover Chew, this guy is infamous for running a phone shop that basically swindled customers of their money, they'd focused on gullible foreigners. So, I ain't making this up, OK?

The point is, since it's an Apple partnered store, most would expect a higher standard in business practice, wouldn't you? I hope Apple has been made aware of this and checks on this partner store because it would impact on them regardless of the fact it was only one of their approved partners that did it. Such 'franchise' owners think that having the approved 'Partner' status means that they have an avenue to generate extra cash through such practices. NOT that Igive a damn about Apple's rep in the first place, but such a shady practice should NOT be allowed to continue.....

I've been to an Apple store quite a few times. I owned a MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2010 (still do have it but I don't use it anymore).

Not quite sure I could buy an Apple laptop again. It wasn't horrible I did like it but I have since been enlightened to the glorious worlds of the PC and Android Master Races.

Though I am still sort of a Console pleb, at least I acknowledge that my PS4 is a neutered PC that has sort of bad specs for a desktop equivalent... At least it's a little better than the Xbone?

 

Maybe this summer or fall if I can manage to get a job and walk again (I rekt right ankle (broke the Tibia and Fibula) about 2 months and 2 weeks ago) I'll fully ascend to the PC master race..

And just to keep it relevant and not stray too far OT, I don't like Apple! I don't plan on stepping into an Apple store ever again......used up a whole bottle of shower gel after that one time, still felt dirty even after the shower.

I guess I could add on to my post about my feelings towards Apple.

Which are quite mixed to be frank... I like Apple as a company and software developer, but I don't like the hardware choices they make, which is excluding their product design which is pretty good and ages well.

 

If I'm paying $2,000 for a laptop I want the aesthetic and the specs to match, none of this low end GPU BS on such an expensive laptop. There's really no reason for Apple not to put a 2GB or 4GB GTX 960m (or future equivalent) in that model of the 15" MacBook Pro.

They're still making a healthy profit on that product and in turn they might attract more people to their OS.

It wasn't a snap judgement. If it were, I would've said your story was false, instead of sounding false. There's a difference between stating a fact and being suspicious.

 

And yes, Apple holds their partners to a higher standard, and again, chances are Apple didn't know what this company was doing, and they need to be informed of it. And the vast majority of the comments in the Facebook are saying the same thing; you can't hold Apple responsible for what non-Apple entities do. Judging by other reports, that particular place in that particular country doesn't know what honesty is.

 

As for your question, no, I don't expect a higher standard because a business has a deal with Apple (or Samsung, or Microsoft, etc.) Businesses are run by people, and I have a general dislike of the average person, so it doesn't matter to me who is partnered with whom. I do my research before I go make expensive purchases like that.

To be fair, the vast majority of people don't see OSX as a gaming platform and would be unlikely to buy an Apple product for that reason, so where would be the incentive for Apple to put in a higher end card and decrease their revenue from it?

Valid point, but Apple does have some games that have been ported to OS X and those games (Like Metro: LL and World of Warcraft) wouldn't mind a beefier GPU. Of course Apple is a business so technically their obligation is to exist to only make money and report to its share holders but still at the same time it ought to be interested in appealling to a wider audience.

Also for the productivity side of things too, a beefier GPU doesn't hurt either.

I use to do it when I was younger but now the stores are always full of tourists or people acting like it's a cyber cafe doing full on work with the computers there...never any room now.
