Number of monitors for video editing

I use 2 monitors via Vga :P and it works "ok" a lot better than my single tv that only was 30hz

More the better, But for me max three one for sound video and preview

I have seen someone using 5 before, 2 for editing the super long timeline in premiere, 1 for viewing finished product off of the timeline, 1 for sound and the other one for email/instant messaging

how i like to edit.

Middle monitor = main editing screen

right monitor = fx/plug ins/preview

left monitor directory/refferance files or preview window if using alot of plug ins

if you have a 15inch monitor which you can place above moddle for a preview then its ok.

but i find any more and you end up haviing facebook or a film open somewhere and you always get drawn away from work.

one for video, audio and preview the 4th is for misc stuff

both my monitors are 1600x900 vga ones at 75hz each is 23inches

I like to edit on 3 22" monitors on HDMI

 

left one has explorer with all the files

middle has the timeline

right has the preview
