I realised the video I posted also shows the 390 an 970 performing very similarly on a skylake i5. Its oc'd though(i think).

i must mention the 3.5gb thing as not as bad as people make it out to be.. i can use over 3.5 on my 970 and there is no hitching or stuttering...

In a certain game I know when you hit VRAM limit nothing more will render! (what to do then?)

No, just uses system ram. The stuttering depends on confounding variables. But I never had an issue.

Actually the game sends ya a message the VRAM is used up and you have to restart it which is annoying...

Only on some games. Not a single game in my library does that. But I play very few FPS games. Which is where most of those games are.

It is the only one in my library that does this so I agree it is a rare problem but for some it is probably a killjoy!

Be you can help me. I have a Pentium G4400 and a 750ti and CS:GO was running fine. Above 60 fps most of the time and only occasionally dipping into the 40s and Lower. As of late it has been running constantly below 40 fps. Most often in the 20s. I don't know why. What would cause this?

It's possible that it's drivers, but more than likely it's just CSGO being CSGO.

Try to set MSAA to x2 and FXAA to Bil!

Correct, the last 512MB chip does indeed run slower. However, the first 7*512MB chips runs slower as well. In reality, it's not 3.5GB + 0.5GB memory. It's 224 bit 3.5GHZ 3.5GB GDDR5 + 32 bit 3.5GHZ 512MB. Converted to bandwidth, that is 196GB/s + 28GB/s. Now in the context of a memory buss, 224 bit + 32 bit does not equal 256 bit, just as adding another system memory chip does not affect memory speeds outside of dual channel supported motherboards.

 

So why is the topic still discussed after so long? Because Nvidia is still making false claims.

The rough calculation with the bandwidth isn't quite correct, my GTX 970 gets funnily enough 224.4GB/sec bandwidth.

Nah, RTG is doing great. Polaris and Pascal will compete once against like usual.

AMD in other hand can't afford Zen to flop.

AMD has mantle which will come with Vulkan (maybe DX12 IDK) which means that the R9 390's wont be so tied down in CPU bound scenarios so that debunks the fact that the 390 will create a messy situation with a less powerful CPU
