1st vs 3rd person?

Do you guys prefer 1st or 3rd person in games? Are there any games you think would be better if they were using a different viewpoint?

Personally, I prefer 1st person usually, I can't seem to really get into the game otherwise (looking at you Witcher 3).

1st person because it actually gives the experience of the game.

Best games recently have been third person imo, MGS :V, witcher 3, batman arkham knight, rise of the tomb raider. there hasn't really been many good first person games. however I am enjoying dying light playing that right now.

It depends on the game really, this is something that is just down to preference and I can't even give a really good reason why I prefer either one in a game. Sometimes one just feels "right" and the other does not.

It depends on the game.  Games that are strictly shooters I prefer first person, but others like gta or saints row, or most rpgs.. I prefer third person.

I like 3rd person because i like to see my character. 1st person is good for when im playing something as me but when its a story driven game about someone that im controlling it seems odd to look through their eyes lol

I agree with the whole per game thing, I feel like GTA V for example works with 3rd person (partly because its 1st person is really not great), but others really don't.

Depends, I really like playing 3rd person shooters like Battlefront (not the new one) but I usually don't play games like skyrim in third person since the controls are better suited for first.

That's an interesting point actually.. I suppose it makes sense to view a character's story from 3rd person, but when its more roleplaying 1st person fits better.

Depends on the game. Dark souls was great in 3rd person, however skyrim was shit in 3rd person.

I prefer 3rd person. I'm extremely picky about my 1st person games.

I find in 3rd person games developers tend to think more about the realism of movement, whether it be lifting yourself on a ledge or interaction with uneven terrain. Watching the movement of a character from a 1st person game often looks very unnatural, like your floating around the scenery.

Some games however like FarCry 3 do a pretty good job feeling more realistic.

Depends on the game, I think most shooters would be terrible in third person, but a game like Hitman wouldn't be the same.

Depends entirely on the game.

MechWarrior Online for example, back in its early stages u could only play 1st person, obviously , it was a mech sim after al. But they added 3rd person (with some drawbacks), but there was mass protest over the move due to 'advantages' over 1st person, like seeing over hills as u had a higher view. In these types of 'sim' games, 1st person is my preferred choice and should be the only option imo.

I can play a 1st person game like Portal fine, and a 3rd person game like Darksiders 2, fine. So I really have no preference in 'general' ether way. If the game is design with a certain view in mind and it works ok, im fine.

The only view point I never really liked was fixed camera 3rd person, like the old Resident Evil games, or even Devil May Cry, though that game was so good in all other aspects I actually got used to it :P

It really depends on the game, but overall, I'd say I've enjoyed more 1st person games than 3rd.

IMO 3rd person can be just as immersive as 1st, so I usually prefer 3rd because of peripheral vision.

3rd person work generally well on most games for me. 1st person on games that use most melee combat (i.e. Skyrim)  feels weird for me.
