We dont know what performance it'll bring, but we do know that for the good of the PC community, AMD better not mess this up.

"The Zen architecture promises to deliver 40 percent more instructions per clock than today’s Excavator cores by embracing a simultaneous multi-threading (SMT) architecture design similar to that of Intel’s Core series rather than the cluster-based multi-threading (CMT) approach AMD adopted for its Bulldozer/Excavator CPUs. Zen will also introduce support for DDR4 RAM. Look for the first Zen chips to land sometime in the fourth quarter of 2016."

Short response: impossible to know it's not out.

Medium response: Impossible to know but AMD has a recent history of over hype and coming rather short of those promises

So I actually don't think it will do much for AMD but I'm willing to give it a shot if and when it's out depending on how it's priced. I'd love to build an APU only system based on ZEN but I'd expect at least 950 desktop levels of GPU performance for me to be impressed.

We have no idea what AMD's Zen CPUs will bring to the table in terms of performance. The socket doesn't really tell you much about the performance of the associated chips.

Yes, and it was real with Bulldozer too. I'm not listening to the hype.

But at least we can hope, AMD kicked Intel's ass back then, high time they do it again

There isn't much hope. I'm sick of AMD's hype. They did it with Fury too.

The closest thing to answering this we can do is by saying "maybe, maybe not?"

It's not out yet. It won't be out for a LONG time. Everything right now is rumour unless proven, and we can't know until it and processors release on the platform.

The technology that Intel uses for Hyper-Threading is called Simultaneous Multi-Threading(SMT).

It it were being released this year, I expect there would have been test samples set out to various people and industries for review to generate hype.
Seen as no such things have been hinted,,, ask again in November...

On paper, it stands to be something pretty special.
Reality,,,,, we will have to see.

My crystal ball pulled out a Schrödinger and told me that it will be either good or bad. :(

Now seriously:

Please don't buy into any hype. We saw the "overclocker's dream" that the Fiji chip was. Remember that Zen doesn't need to be better than Intel in order to be successful. It can offer better performance per dollar and make Intel drop the prices of their CPUs. I'm more interested to find out if we'll finally see a competitor to the LGA2011 platform. :)

That's true, but they also better not advertise it like "We're going to crush Intel." They need to get out of that mindset and simply tell us to expect it to compete with Intel's products.
