Just pros and cons for the people on the fence considering upgrading to 1440p

 

Pros

 

Picture quality

For me the difference is noticeable, you get used to it, it becomes standard. Trust me 1080p will never seem the same again.  You dont realize the full extent of 1440p until you try and go back to a normal 1080p monitor. I've taken some screenshots with my monitor displaying 1440p and 1080p although I dont know if they do 1440p justice for you 1080p users

Even look at the crispness of the date and icons compared to 1080p

in games I do notice the difference but it is more noticeable in desktop use.

 

The picture quality alone is worth the money but my monitor is 144hz as well and id definitely recommend that.

If you're considering 1440p you'll probably be looking at 27 inch monitors. Before I got the current monitor I was using a 21.5 inch 1080p monitor, I thought the size was great and I didnt really understand people that said 27 inches is so much better. Even the monitors at school are 21.5 or 23 inches.

 

After living with a 27 inch monitor for a week you will never ever go back to anything less than 25 inches. You literally cant unsee a 27 inch monitor, before Christmas my eyes saw the school computers as normal size, to me they could quite easily compare to my iPad thats how small and squashed they look.

This one depends on what system you have and what games you play of course but if you plan on playing AAA titles at 60 fps The lowest i'd recommend is a 970/390

even then I have to turn down some settings to get 60 FPS, if you happen to be running for example two 2GB R9 380s in CF kiss 1440p goodbye. I'd say get at least a 4gb card.

 

 

 

TL;DR If you're asking yourself if 1440p is worth it, it 100% is the picture quality is next level compared to 1080p but if you plan to game at 60 fps get atleast a 970/ R9 390

Lets say you have a gtx 780 ti 3gb your Vram would be a bottleneck it would be possible to run 1440p but even though your card would be able to run good settings you would have to turn even more stuff down so you dont go over 3gb

A single 290 barely ran my MG279Q at playable framerates using the native res, but of course it depends on the game. In general, I'm extremely pleased having upgraded to a 144hz 1440p panel and having used it for 4 months, I can't see myself going back. Have a VN279Q on order to see what its like using a 1080p panel at 27" in size, and again with AMD virtual super res at 1440p.

Edit get a really nice 1440p wallpaper and then change the monitor resolution to 1080p

I bought my second 290 from another LTT member not too long ago. With the recent crimson drivers, the extra boost in frames is definitely welcomed in demanding games. Or at least for games that take advantage of crossfire LOL Drastically different results between project CARS and CSGO.

I have a 390x and a 290 but my 290 is out of action rn My 390x suffocates too easily so I'll have to mod the cooler

I guess I'll drop a bit of personal experience with my 31MU97. 

4K at 32" looks great but scaling sucks when you're also using a Cintiq 22HD and U2410. 

I'd suggest going with two 4K displays or just one if you're going to do it. It ends up making anything else look crappier.

I'm still completely torn between going 4k 60Hz or 1440p Korean panel so 100Hz+.

 

Both are very close in price.

My experience with Korean monitors is that they are good, but I definitely wouldn't buy one again. The build quality is pathetic, the stand is awful, and what you are getting is a panel that didn't pass quality tests. If I have to buy a 1440p monitor again, I'll buy from a more common brand, but my Korean monitor serves me well for now.

Are there any good 1440 G sync monitors out there that aren't $700. Maybe like $400-$570? Maybe I will just go for 4K I mean I have a GTX980ti a second one wouldn't hurt

I'm a big fan of 1440p but I prefer the smaller 24" size, that being said I have 3 of them so I have many pixels

It depends on which monitors in particular you're comparing and what you're using them for.

I have an Acer Predator 27 inch 1440p GSYNC IPS monitor and a samsung 1080p TN 24 inch monitor.

 

I have the same wallpaper on both, and the difference in image/panel quality is very noticeable.

That might work. But it ruins the look I was thinking of removing the Twin Frozr fan shroud and installing dual 120mm's.
