It depends on which AMD processor you're talking about. As a matter of fact, that Intel processor is rather old and there are better intel processors (probably) for the money.

Hate a new guy? For making a budget build? Perish the thought!

I've built entry-level budget gaming rigs in the past for less than $300. I built one with a Q6600, 8GB of RAM, an SSD and a Radeon 7770 for around $210. The case is made of cardboard, the motherboard was picked up for pocket money out of a "broken" bin (but still works) but the whole machine works really really well given what it is. It'll run most games at 1080p with no problem, if you turn the settings down. I'm a huge fan of the Q6600 and I love putting together budget gaming builds!

As for advice - if you go with the Q6600 (it's $20 - who wouldn't? :P) then you'll need at least a G31 motherboard which supports Core 2 Quads. Or any other LGA 775 motherboard that supports them. That will set you for your platform. They'll go for around $40 on ebay but you can get them cheaper on craigslist. I would say get the rest of the hardware used except for the hard drive and the power supply. EVGA's B-stock power supplies are great for low-power builds, and are nice and cheap.

If you can fit it into your budget, get an SSD - it'll make everything so much better. If not, though, you can just make do with a normal HDD and get an SSD later.

Windows will be expensive, and all the beta builds have long expired. If that's a problem, G2A could help you get cheaper product keys. Or you can go use Linux for a while until you get enough to afford Windows. That's what I did at first, back in my first days of building computers.

Just some tips there! :D Hope this helped!

Cords? What cords? If you mean the power supply cords then those are attached to the power supply - unless they're modular, but they come with the PSU in that case anyway. If you mean the SATA cables for the hard drives, then those are a dime a dozen. If you need cords you can get them. They're crazy cheap.

Its kinda hard to make sure you need to look up the LGA775 motherboard model and see if it supports Q6600! :D
