How do you limit the PC-related spending?

Psyclon13

Hello there!

Recently I spent approximately $ 1,200 on upgrading my PC, changing everything but the SSD and HDD. I don't know what this amount means to people in developed countries, but here in Bulgaria it's relatively high (equal to about 5 minimum monthly wages). I decided I would not buy anything else, but then I started reading about silent fans, fan controllers, magnetic dust filters, etc., and the tiny enthusiast in me woke up. Since then I've watched and read over a hundred reviews of different accessories and I want them all! Well, some of them. I'm lucky enough to have a good job that would allow me to afford such purchases without putting an unreasonable strain on my life, but the deep-rooted reasonable part of me outright refuses to justify them. For example, i bought a Phantom 530 for $110 and now I really, really, really want to get a full set of DEMCiflex filters, valued at $60. Since they are not available in my country, including shipping the price would exceed the cost of the case, which is so far beyond unreasonable, I dare say it's preposterous. And yet I sit and look at the case, imagining how it would look with the filters on.

Am I going crazy? I presume that most of you are "enthusiasts" - how do you balance/limit your enthusiasm?

I don't :P

jk, I just normally don't have spending money to hand and I come from a poor background so excessive spending kinda feels wrong to me.

I feel like this alot as well tbh, like my pc is easily good enough, I can play any game, take on pretty much any workload, and yet I want more

Just delay the things a bit. If you wait a long time, you will eventually find out that you either didn't really want the thing, or that you actually really want it. If you still feel like you really want it, you should buy it. :)

I justify my AV/PC spending by the fact I don't go into town every weekend spending £200 on beer, food and new clothes. Id much rather have stuff I can use in my house.

PC spending is a bit of a net though, I keep saying I'm happy, then I bought a faster SSD, happy, a second 970GTX, happy add another 16gb ram right now I feel happy but I already want a 1440p monitor

Well, I wouldn't believe because you have top tier GPU from AMD and your Processor has a hefty price tag too.

The R9 390 is not top tier, that'd be the Fury X.

And my PC is justified because I don't have a TV or any consoles and my PC serves as my communications hub, gaming platform and media centre so it's cost, to me, is somewhat justified.

That sounds like a good idea. My birthday is in March, i'll put off buying anything else until then and if I still feel enthusiastic, I'll treat myself to some goodies :)

Easy having to be an adult and having to ask such questions as

Can i afford food ?

Can I afford rent ?

Can I afford to those damn bills that always pile up ?

Also self control and what is deemed. A nessity paying for an extra gpu isn't but having aroof over my head sure is.

I just safe up money for that specific case when I want something and don't buy it until I have the money set apart for it.
