Just to say these recommended specs are for the pre-alpha. The game has not gone under any optimization so far so I am betting to say that you would be able to play this game with a 680 8GB or Ram and an i5 easily with medium to high settings once this game has gone under some optimization.

I'll record some footage of the hangar module on 29 August & see how it goes, if even that can't run smoothly on a 7950 i think we have a new phrase.

'Yes, but can it run Crysis 3? Star Citizen?'

Correct me if i'm wrong but from what i've seen the hangar module is indoors and should have no excuse for not running smoothly on something like a 7950 at 1080p. Could be a different story flying around in space looking at behemoth ships.

Vendor-specific features such as PhysX Tress FX or were not planned and the Cryengine not really necessary.
Tress FX is not vendor specific; Nvidia cards are allowed to render it in hardware too.

So let me get this straight: Star Citizen will run at the following

1. A Quad Core Processor (Minimum: Core 2 Quad or such; Max: i7 4770K or such)

2. Memory: 8 GB DDR3 Memory (MINIMUM)

3. A latest graphics card for MEDIUM settings (Dear @LinusTech, replace your watercooled 590 with a watercooled TITAN, NOW!)

4. 64-bit OS...

I'm not sure what the fuss is about with this. Okay, so it's being designed to be used with state of the art technology in 18 months. But the scheduled final release is for q1 2015... which would be about 18 months away...

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. If the official release is 1,5 years away, by that time we got hardware which should easily run Star Citizen with max settings. 980 is probably available by then.

I was really hoping that I wouldn't have to upgrade. Guess I'll wait for 8xx or 9xx Nvidia cards to come out to really crank the eye candy, till then my 660 Ti's will have to do.

That's great and all (new consoles gonna run this at 360p lol) but if it doesn't look way better than bf4, crysis 3 and far cry 3, then what's the point?

Cooler Master 690 II Advanced - I5 2500K @ 4.5Ghz - Geil Enhance Plus 1750Mhz 8Gb - ASUS ENGTX 570 DCUII - MSI Z68aGD65 - Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B - Samsung 830 128gb and Crucial m4 128gb - much other stuff not worth mentioning

Well I was saving my money to get my driver's license and register my car, I guess that's going to be put on hold to get another 7970....

Main Machines~ Prometheus - i7 3930k @ 4.5GHz, X79-UD3, HyperX Blu 1600Mhz 24Gb (2x8Gb, 2x4Gb), XFX Double-D 7970, H100i, Military green C70, TX850M, All Corsair SP/AF-120 fans, Samsung 840 Pro 128Gb, 750Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM x2, NZXT Hue accent lights (wouldn't reccommend, they don't stick well). Laptop~ Asus X202E touch notebook- 500Gb 5400RPM 7mm HDD, 4Gb RAM-not upgradeable, 1.8GHz i3, HD4000

Yes but there's really no way to compare it to those games is there... what they're rendering is totally different. This is a space sim with some indoor areas. Finding a similar map to compare it with crysis is almost impossible.

That's great and all (new consoles gonna run this at 360p lol)

As of now this is a PC exclusive. Chris Roberts may reconsider in future though...
