I do see some point in doing this but the 295x2 still outperforms both Titan X and 980 Ti in most modern games these days that are Crossfire friendly, however it consumes a lot of power.

Didn't the nanos never reach 1000mhz without bumping up the voltage though? They usually only reached around 900mhz, so wouldn't the actual tdp still be higher?

 

Yeah, the nano uses the target tdp thing so it scales up and down. However you've gotta think that two of them with proper crossfire support rarely (if ever outside of benchmarks) would actually be pushed hard and constant enough for that to happen. In fact the last AMD driver also prominently features that target FPS thingie which does the same thing.

 

This seems exiting: unlike the 295x2 it might have better use of the crossfire instead of running balls to the wall all power all the time. My fear is that this card will probably retail for around 1500 since well its dual nanos so thats 1300 off the bad and probably water cooled or with a beefier cooling solution so it will be Titan range in price.

 

Also, @LinusTech has some nanos according to twitter pics, I know its still speculation but @Slick could try to run crossfire nanos without pushing them to the absolute max or using target framerate to check the wattage and clocks, I'd be a virtual performance preview of this card.

Would AMD and Nvidia both stop lying about the bandwidth and memory of dual-GPU cards?! It's 512GB/s per GPU. That does not aggregate to being 1TB/s. And since we don't have VRAM stacking, it certainly is not an 8GB card.

doesnt matter really... the 290/390 core itself isnt powerful enough to fully utilize all that VRAM... it can push maybe 5-6GB tops...

hell, even a Titan X, with 12GB of VRAM wont actually have the GPU horsepower to give you reasonable framerates if a game NEEDS 12GB of VRAM (games can hog VRAM... but being so damanding that they NEED it is something different from hogging it for themselves)

I remember my gtx 470, thing was reaching 90° while gaming with a 80% fan speed until I opened that sucker up to change the thermal paste only to realise there was glue blocking the space between the fins completely. This one is actually my the second gtx 470 I got from someone who had just bought a gtx 570 for 35$. His wasnt as bad as mine. Mine was glue'd on the whole width. Both had their fins glue'd from top to bottom.  As far as I can tell, this glue didnt serve any purpose as after removing it, nothing was loose. (oh yeah and around 20° improvement)

Not high agreed, but not as low: AFAIK if this is done on the engine level it should be fairly easy and transparent to do, henceforth if say 2 out of the 4 or 5 major engines that are widely used get it and henceforth make it easier for those devs, the number of games turns to something more respectable and worth considering.

If the GPU can utilize 5-6GB then an 8GB card will have a significant advantage over a 4GB card.

 

The Powercolor R9 390X2 is an unofficial card, so of course that doesn't count. Powercolor themselves don't even call it a 390X2.

I don't really consider 1 offs by some particular company too important, i mean unless AMD recognizes it in their product stack it isn't that relevant to discussion.

No. The 295x2 is not "WAY" more powerful than the 390x2. There was/is not that much of a gap between the 290/290X and like wise between the 390/390X. Out of the box the 390/X's are about 5-10% quicker than 290/X's on average, just from increased factory clock speeds alone, which further closes the gap between the 390 and 290X GPUs.
