Windows turns 30 years old

AlTech

Notice how windows 1.0 displays more information than the modern ui in the win10 menu while occupying less pixels...

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Remember when Windows XP was released? Oh so much nostalgia.

That reminds me. I need to create a post showing the evolution of various iTunes revisions. Yes, I downloaded many many different revisions going back to iTunes 4.

Well Canonical, the makers of Ubuntu do

Linux =/= Ubuntu

I want to clear this up as I hate Ubuntu (apart from Lubuntu distros and Xubtuntu distros. Elementary is also pretty nice if you have the machine for it)

iTunes nowadays is ugly and bloated IMO. It always seemed quite bloaty and slow to me.

iTunes nowadays is ugly and bloated IMO.

I will respectfully disagree with that, though I wish iTunes had a function that would allow it to scan a source(or multiple sources) at startup or every x amount of minutes.

Who remembers when Microsoft tried to experiment with User Interfaces, that living room that encompassed programs underneath. Eg: The calendar of the living room wall would open the calendar app when clicked. And the introduction of the worlds most hated font, Comic Sans

Actually, the true birthday of the "true" Windows OS was in 1993 -- the first release of Windows NT. All the consumer versions, up to WinXP, were essentially advanced GUI shells stacked upon DOS.

And that matters how exactly?

They were called Windows and were a part of the Windows family, the fact they were stacked on top of DOS (and btw only up to 98 were on top of DOS, by ME it was stripped out entirely) is entirely irrelevant.

The title is Windows is 30 years old and not Windows NT is 30 years old. Unless your gonna argue Windows 1 isn't a Windows version?

wow, what did you do to make that happen?

Connected my laptop to a TV via HDMI to watch a movie. After I was done, I disconnected it and tried to re-open a minimalised Firefox window but there was a graphical glitch: the application stayed minimalised and all you see is a transparant window when hovering above it. Not too sure if it is a Windows or a FF bug but it happens every single time.

So I logged out and logged back in and I was greated by what you see. Background turns black and several icons are squeezed together.

I've had many graphical glitches after plugging in and out HDMI cables, it seems like Windows 10 can't handle the switch between different résolutions (glorious 1366x768 and 1080p in my case).

That process is handled by the graphics driver, not Windows.

So several months after the Windows 10 rollout, there are still no updated drivers? For the end user it doesn't change much: I had a more stable system when Windows 8.1 was installed.

So blame the video card manufacturers and not Windows then. I'm sorry but nothing you've posted here is anything to do with Microsoft, they're not responsible for maintaining your graphics driver.

It's a laptop bought in the spring of this year with Intel graphics. If the biggest chip maker on the planet can't be bothered to update it's drivers for a chip that's less than a year old, maybe Microsoft should start pushing Intel do so.

I couldn't care less if it's Intel or Microsoft I have to blame. For the average user, something which was working great before the update doensn't work anymore and Microsoft should care about that if they want people to upgrade to their 'latest and greatest' OS.

Sure, and while we're at it we should expect AMD to be pushing Nvidia to increase the price of GeForce cards, I mean they're the reason why AMD cards don't sell as well as they might.

Do you realise how ridiculous you sound right now? Microsoft have zero influence over Intel or you. It was your choice to upgrade and Intel's choice to abandon their driver, not only can Microsoft not do anything about this I'm pretty sure they really don't care either.

No one is forcing you to stay on 10. Your problems are caused by Intel and you, not Microsoft or Windows.

Because YOU chose to upgrade and then when YOU found out Intel had abandoned their driver for YOUR gpu YOU decided to stay on 10.

If there's a solution for your issue which you've ignored then you are at least a part of the problem.

Thanks, I found the solution. I'm switching to Ubuntu in the following days, I can't stand arguing with M$ fanboys who defend their broken OS any longer.

Brilliant try, unfortunately for you I spend much more time in Ubuntu than I do in Windows.

I'm not an MS fanboy, I just can't stand people who apportion blame incorrectly.
