Dammit all to hell Intel. Looks so tempting but I may wait until Skylake-E to upgrade. 4790K is a beast of a CPU but she ain't gonna last me forever. Knowing my itch to want to get the newest tech even if not needed is causing my head to hurt. :wacko:

you have SSE 4.2 and AVX 256. You will be fine for at least 6 years. Software hasn't remotely caught up to Intel's innovations yet. Honestly you people and your 2-year upgrade cycles... My family builds for 7-8 years at at time (GPU notwithstanding). Just overclock a bit a couple years down the road. As BIOSes improve your ability to overclock will too.

6900K and 6950X should have 40 PCIe lanes, with the 6900K near $700 dollars?

I think the 6900k should probably clock in a smidge higher than the 5930k, so probably $600 - $650.  Either way - should be incredible.

Unknown yet, but being second from the top... 550-750 USD is my best bet (likely closer to 750).

Yep.  Older CPU's almost always get more expensive as new ones are released.  We'll probably see the 5820k and 5930k approach prices like the 4930k as time goes on.

Intel Haswell-E prices will barely drop because of Broadwell-E. It might, but not that much. And them 5960X will still say at the $999 mark. Wait like 5 years later then the 5960X will drop to like half of MSRP.

Really happy that Intel stayed on LGA2011-3 for Broadwell, I see an upgrade to a 6950X in my future. Maybe in 2-3 years time?

The thing about the mainstream is the software needing such core counts IS NOT MAINSTREAM! It's enthusiast stuff, so Intel will address it with enthusiast products at a price premium.
