Why is snapchat so popular?

Most people in my school use snapchat and I couldn't tell you for the life of me, why they use it. 

 

And in fact some of my friends completely wrote off Windows Phone once they realized there was no snapchat (they could live with everything else!)

 

So why is it so important?

Probably because it's a different way of communicating rather than texting and other forms social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

Because teenage girls like to take pictures and send them. Also, since they aren't permanent, if she's a bit ugly it's all good. That's what I understood from my life experiences.

This, so much this. I can just snap a stupid picture of something and send it to all of my friends (the very few) all at once. Also it's good for sending short video clips as well.

I only use it because my friends do. Other than that not really.

Various times a day, sometimes not once, sometimes 20+ times. I personally use it for workplace communications, It's great for quick and dirty photos with questions about laptops/desktops/work orders/random paperwork messes that i can send to my techs and my supervisor. 

Although, most people do indeed use it for nudes. What many people don't know is that any photo you send is actually stored in a cache file on your phone that can be accessed with the right equipment. My cousin was busted for pornographic usage and was sending and receiving pics to underage girls (him and the girls were all 16 at the time, no charges were pressed). There was a private investigation initiated by my aunt, and they were able to pull every single picture he sent or received from a cache file on his iPhone.

I don't use it or anything else like it. I also don't know why people do the things they do...but maybe it is the ease of it? Most people are lazy today so that's a huge plus to them.

Because of false advertising.

 

Originally they said that pictures would be deleted completely after a certain amount of time, stupid people thought it was a good idea until they realized you could just screenshot it or as some people did, capture the image directory and download it.

 

And I guess people just kept using it from that point on, and more people are using it just because their friends use it.
