The i5 will still do everything else, for a normal home user a locker i5, h81 board and stock cooler is a great product that is very powerful and great value

 

Severe overcooking is....the difference between an overclock on a 212, and the overclock on a custom loop is not economical. you might get 5-10% better performance but you are spending as much on the cooling as you are the CPU - and for 99% of programs would make no real difference

 

Then why did you buy an unlocked cpu on an overclocking board? Surely if it makes no difference then what's the point? The locked ones would of done what you wanted anyway so why did you bother? Was it for E-Peen like you and the other guy is calling me out for or what? A 212 on my chip wouldn't do anything, plus my loop cools my board. I couldn't buy an i5 at the time of building my rig, and I couldn't buy an i5 system for the £150-ish that the loop was built for again the i5 would need to be unlocked because buying a locked one isn't fit for my purpose.

So you LIKE to overclock. And that's why you overpay, we are finally getting somewhere. You LIKE to pay more just so you could tinker with it and have fun. If you are spending money on what you like why do you argue about the value of the thing, it's clearly worse value wise, you just spend more money because you want to overclock, for fun.

I like getting what I'm paying for yes. The same statement would hold true if I had an unlocked i5, for my purposes atleast, you like budget that's fine we've had that discussion before on a thread where the OP specifically said he wanted an unlocked chip and you argued with him and me that it was pointless. I'd rather have the performance I'm paying the premium for, there is only you that has a problem with that at this moment in time because of your own personal opinion on value like in that last thread.

The h100i was bought for aesthetic reasons,  and in case i do decide to overclock

 

 

The fact is, even back then an unlocked i5, board and cooler would not have cost much more than an FX8350 and your custom loop and still would have given similar if not potentially better performance

I didn't shit on the x99 I said if the budget doesn't allow to get the X99 and AMD will do for rendering etc on a budget. Then you started arguing for an i5 and I said if you're on a budget and want to overclock to get more performance an FX wouldn't break your back, even if it is underpowered. Considering you have nothing against AMD you've got a rock on for anything intel. Just because the AMD under performs slightly doesn't mean fuck them right off. There are many factors to consider, I've already agreed with you on a few things but you're still on the leading foot even going on to attack my choice of cooler just to drive home something I agreed with you on.

 

My budget didn't allow me to buy an unlocked intel, even with my cooling setup which cost less than an unlocked i5 alone which I can transfer to an Intel build in the future, I couldn't afford an intel set up. The price difference back then was quite large so I bought what I did because my budget allowed. I might not be winning any benches soon but in terms of gaming and doing my design work, my system performs pretty damn well.
