Because currently AMD is trash and they don't reaaaally have the means of catching up, they rely on foundries to produce their CPU's which seem like that will delay their Zen architecture too, which means Intel can push out at least one more generation of cpu's and who the fuck knows what the hell they can come out with.

 

 

All this speculation is just dreaming. Intel is not going to let AMD catch them ever again, they are just too far ahead.

 

Facts please? Show me da money! I wonder if they'll release a new CPU 1% faster every year like a new CoD game because they've not moved far from devils canyon... Intel IS dragging their feet. Look at their cpu die sizes. They are shrinking and shrinking and shrinking with GPU taking up more and more and more space. Skylake cpu part is fucking TINY.

Also, yes, FX chips overclock well, just that overclocking them brings less performance and you pretty much HAVE to overclock them to even match Intel.

If any of you thought about it like i said... An AMD CPU between ivy and haswell in ipc with it's cache fixed would be a great CPU... None of us truly need even haswell for gaming... CPU/s are getting like software with last gen consoles.. Nothing taxes it enough.

Catching intel means being around Skylake performance which seems highly unlikely.

 

And what about those of us who do editing and encoding work on their systems? Should they also not bother with X99 or Skylake because "theres simply no need"?

Phenom was good. Phenom is what AMD should have die shrunk, it could probably have been very good, they didn't though. It's been half a decade since then.

My old Q6600 could do the job perfectly, that doesn't mean I should use it for the job though.
