I agree its archaic, but its perfectly suited to the GPU in this laptop, and is sharp enough for normal use

there is a 1080p option too

1080p on 21" = 104 ppi

1440p on 27" = 108ppi

and 768p is perfectly suited the GPU for playing gamses, since it wont be running games at 1080p it means sharper gaming without interpolation

I think this laptop is perfectly fine for its price, its a good balance of specs suited to its target market, and appropriate for its hardware and performance, and should be good for people wanting a bit of gaming oomph on something budget

Also there is a 1080p option if the person wants it for browsing and other purposes

Ummm.... No. I tried a 1366 x 768 laptop for a week and it was awful. UI elements don't fit on the screen. I had to drag around windowed elements because the buttons to minimize or close the window are off-screen.  1080p is the most common resolution and as such, most UI elements are designed to both fit and look the sharpest at that resolution. 768p should die a cruel death.

I think perfectly suited for the GPU is a bad argument. Not everyone is looking to be run games at medium/high settings and personally I would rather play at 1080p Low then 768p Medium/High.

I need more SSDs.

My parents laptop is that, ive used it plenty of times, its perfectly fine imo.. and I have a laptop right next to me with a 4k dispaly and I dont like it.. so hey

its not a bad argument, it keeps the cost of the machine down and is easier on the gpu

104ppi is a perfectly normal sharpness for a monitor, its not far off 1440p on a 27" monitor - its just a smaller screen

To be fair, some stuff is janky on my 768p.  However it doesn't matter most of the time because games are fine.  I can deal with the odd window being rendered funny while I'm gaming in a hotel room.  It's fine.

Why are 768p panels not dead yet.

Bcuz HP wants to make sure that I cry every time I use my laptop.

For the price this is crazy bad. You can get a EuroCom laptop (or any of the other resellers) for the same price and be a better laptop in every regard by large margins (except for thinness and weight).

and stuff is janky on this 4k display, i guess its just the other extreme

I would never say 768p is amazing, but "okay fine" would be the description, its a budget machine, it works, it plays games

Weight and thinness its important in a portable device

What I wanna understand is why everyone skips 1600x900 except for 17" laptops.

I know its not much of an "upgrade" but it is easier to drive then 1080p.

At 15" it be the around the same ppi as a 13" 768p screen.

Side note: Whenever I see a 17" laptop with 768p, I can't help but cringe.

thats true 900 would have been a good option for 15"

yeah 17" at 768 is a no go
