In retrospect how bad was this for my cpu?

I had a HP Pavilion with a i7 950, I would render 720p (might have even been 1080p been too long to remember) 30 minute videos with it. My CPU would get up to 80c or more.

80*C is perfectly normal

My old craptop reached 80c at idle.

It was fine, but 30 minutes still seems way too long.

people benchmark for way longer to test stability on an OC

Sorry I misread, I thought OP said a 720p video would take 30 minutes to render, which didn't sound right with that CPU. :P

it is totally fine!

I have an i7-2600 running a stockheatsink usually tops at 80 degrees C when rendering so yeah you're safe.
